Oooh Cheeky one you are! haha
I couldn't read for a few days so I was only reading a couple of pages at a time. Now I'm flying through it, it's actually a lot easier read that I thought it would be. I love how Florence makes up her own words. There have been a few times where I've literally laughed out loud but now I'm half way through it's getting a bit serious... dum dum dum x

Vicky | 30 comments I am currently reading Micro by Michael Crichton and am really enjoying it. You can so see it being made into a big blockbuster though like Jurassic Park.

This is not a good sign, I am rather worried. Is it that bad? :s

It might be because I started reading his new book a few months ago and got really in to it but put it down for group reads. This book seems slower and there are so many characters where the other hooked me straight away and was much more focused.

message 10: by Vicky (new)

Vicky | 30 comments How far into it are you Kirsty? I read it a few months ago but remember it having a few slow bits, but bear with it as I enjoyed it in the end when the character relationships develop a bit more.

I'm about 120 pages in. Do you fancy being discussion leader? I've got over 900 pages to go:/ Have you read his new one?

message 12: by Vicky (new)

Vicky | 30 comments Thanks for the offer but I will have to pass on discussion leader as my work is really busy to from time to time I pop in and out of here so i'm probably not the best person to get involved as I wouldn't be able to devote enough time to it at the moment.

I haven't read his new one yet, my Dad, who's a big SK fan, got it for Xmas so I may borrow it afterwards however I can't say the theme of the book appeals to me as much as some of his others so I think I may struggle with the new one.

Popco by Scarlett Thomas
It's really good. I'm only a quarter of the way through so it's still setting the scene and background at the moment but is about code breaking. I get the feeling this is one of those I will sit up half the night reading.

Sam (VanillaFountain) | 577 comments Mod
To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee Interesting but I'm not consumed by it yet...

Curlyclaz | 7 comments I am re-reading 'Down under' by Bill Bryson. I have packed nearly all my books ready to move and found this in the bathroom ! I wasn't going to buy more until we moved but accidentally went to the charity shop yesterday and got a Peter James book and a Patricia Cornwell.

I pre-ordered them 1Q84 Book 1 and Book 2 by Haruki Murakami but haven't read them yet. What do you think so far? Have you read 1984?

I'm reading 11/22/63 by Stephen King and I'm about 500 pages in.

I'm also reading Bees And Mist by Erick Setiawan which is really quite bizarre and reminds me of White is for Witching by Helen Oyeyemi

I have Almost finished book two, I find it very good and interesting, and even though its a big book its worth it. It took me a little while to be bothered but it pays off in the end! I would recommend it. After 1Q84 i have daughter of smoke and bone to read - any one read that?

I read the first two, they're not great but easy reading, so of course now I have to read the next two as well!

I started reading The Waiting Room by F.G. Cottam yesterday, I haven't got very far yet as I've been in the hospital half the day with my SIL while she was being induced and we are still waiting on my Niece as it seems she is to comfortable where she is :D x

I have just started Our Tragic Universe by Scarlett Thomas but it's not really grabbing me like her previous books have. I do like her books though so hopefully it will get better

I like it but it's not really grabbing me. it's interesting and quite easy-going though.

The crooked man was very disturbing and when the author said in the Q&A (at the back of the book) some people ask why it's not a children's book I balked (and boaked)

The descriptions of most of the twisted fairy tale characters and their cruelty but mainly the crooked man and his rooms.

I'm reading The Moth Diaries by Rachel Klein at the moment, and really enjoying it. It's been on my shelves for a while, and I really wish I'd picked it up sooner. It's a rewriting of Carmilla by Joseph Sheridan Le Fanu set in a girl's boarding school. Very gripping so far!

Michelle | 30 comments I'm reading Abraham Lincoln Vampire Hunter by Seth Grahame-Smith . It's pretty good, although it does drag in parts. The concept of vampires being behind the American Civil War is an interesting one.

Oh sorry I thought you meant something in the Q&A question made you balk, but yes the crooked man is creepy. Snow White and the Seven Dwarves made me laugh though. I think we forget how scary some of the original fairy tales are, we get used to the 'disneyfied' versions of some of them I think.

It' set in Preston right near where I work, so it's very interesting to hear that point of view

I'm going to get back to The Bone People by Keri Hulme - I was really enjoying it but I got distracted by the inlaws staying. I started to read All the Names (Harvill Panther) by José Saramago which I really persisted with and am at 77% but it really drags with details and because I think it seems like he is a great author I will finish it (I will, I will!)

message 44: by Aimee (new)

Aimee (smiley_laydee) | 92 comments I'm reading 'the help' atm and loving it. Im 200 pages in. I bought the hunger games trilogy and the snow child today. I have this week off so hoping to get quite a bit of reading in as I've missed last months read due to work and life business.

I keep hovering over whether to read The Hunger Games or not. The fact that it's so mega-popular puts me off a bit, and I'm not usually too fond of YA, but I never read Twilight or Harry Potter and it did feel like I missed ot on a lot of what everyone was talking about.

message 46: by Aimee (new)

Aimee (smiley_laydee) | 92 comments I've never wanted to read Twilight but someone compared The Hunger Games to 'Lord of the Flies' which I have read previously so I feel compelled to find out whether there are any similarites.

Also, Harry Potter is awesome (although I did start reading the books when I was 11 so I was a YA-ish lol)

message 47: by Kerry Bridges (new)

Kerry Bridges | 121 comments I read The Hunger Games (The Hunger Games, #1) by Suzanne Collins itself before I knew there was a film, and I did enjoy it for light reading - you could do it in a day Sophia and then you'd see if it was worth reading the other 2?

The Song of Achilles by Madeline Miller which might get me back in to historical fiction and even entice me to read The Iliad & The Odyssey (Boxed Set) by Homer *gulp*
