M Is for Magic by Neil Gaiman is our February 2012 book - who's reading?

Anatha (anatha_bananatha) | 34 comments I love Neil Gaiman to pieces, but I'm going to pass on this one this time. The bulk of the stories in here are either from Fragile Things: Short Fictions and Wonders or Smoke and Mirrors: Short Fictions and Illusions, both of which are sitting on my bookshelves waiting to be re-read. I didn't think it'd be worth buying, and our public library doesn't have it immediately available. Perhaps I'll buy it in the future for those few stories that aren't in the aforementioned collections.

And so I'm taking this month as an opportunity to read one of the books that you guys went through a little while ago: Autobiography of Red!

I hope you guys like your Gaiman stories!

I posted a review of M is for Magic here, mulled over the difference between a review & a discussion, and reposted it to the book page.

(This brings up interesting questions for me about how we could get Endicott group members' reviews linked to the relevant discussion pages, but maybe that's a conversation for another thread.)

On the discussion front, should anyone who's read M is for Magic want to talk more about it here at this late date, I'd love to know what you think of Gaiman's short stories vs his novels and also which stories in this anthology are your favorites & why.

My favorites were October in the Chair because of the unexpected chilling and sad ending and The Price because of a similar creepiness and the mysterious, brave, heroic cat.

If you liked the poem at the end, Instructions, you might like this piece in the old Endicott Mythic Arts journal:
