Just finishing up War Horse, which doesn't count for the challenge as it's a "bookring" and just arrived. Lovely children's story, but suitable for adults. I haven't seen the film, and will wait for it to come to the satellite so I can see it in English.
Has anyone seen the stage production? The South African puppeteers who built the horses are so talented.

In relation to the film, my kids and some of their friends saw it at Christmas time and were distinctly underwhelmed.
Yeah... I'm not going to race out to see it. I hope it is still showing (on the stage, I mean) in New York this summer. We are planning to be in the US, but we have to sit down and work out the details.

Goodie! Something to look forward to!

Grand fun! The one thing I really miss about living in NYC (as opposed to all the normal/usual things I miss) is having Broadway so close. I used to go 3 or 4 times a year, often going to the TKTS half price place. Such a treat. *sigh* Theatre is not big in Rome. There is more going on up north, but here no.

I can well imagine missing NYC for that reason, Hayes. I get to see some great theatre in Sydney, but going to the theatre in NYC or in London is such a treat. The first time my daughter and I went to NYC together, we overdosed on theatre. From memory we saw about eleven productions in sixteen days, with most of the tickets bought from TKTS booth. It was my daughter's first visit to NYC and the light in her eyes the first time we turned a corner and I told her we were on Broadway was priceless!
I've been reading everyone's posts, just not posting much. I have been playing the "one armed paper hanger", so I'm kinda stalled with the challenge. And I'm reading 3 wonderful books, but they are chunksters... I might have to slip in a kid's book just to keep me going!

I have to get started with my books as well (I am still hoping to actually go above and beyond Mount Vancouver).
I'm now getting very tired of one of my books, but I am loath to give up on it. I will persevere. Then I'll have to write a negative review and have everyone jump all over me ;-) Decisions, decisions...
Could be fun! I am dragging on a book I always thought my mother loved. It's not very good. So, I can jump on your review to alleviate my feelings of bad-daughter guilt. You're a pal! :D
Any time! What are friends for? :-)))
lol I have to push through and finish, because we start The Fellowship of the Ring this week. Are you in?
No, I'll have to pass. I have to finish A Suitable Boy, and I have a few other bricks that I have to get through. I'm so glad Bev set up this challenge, because I have some books that have been sitting on my shelves since August of 2009... and those are the purchased ones. I finally read the ones that I brought over from the States 26 years ago!
I'm pulling out a mix of recent and neglected books, too.
Slipped in a re-read of a kids' book which doesn't count for the challenge, while I read the others, which are snailing along... good, but slow, all three of them (well, 2.5 of them are good).
The Black Stallion
and I finally posted my review of Inherit the Wind

My niece has bugged me to read this for years. Have you posted a review?

Yes, it's there in the first comment.

Very disappointing after a stellar beginning.

disappointing... on a roll of meh books lately."
That's gonna be par for the course innit? I hate to be a downer on the challenge, but sometimes, just sometimes, there's a damned good reason why those books have stayed on the TBR shelf for years and years - maybe they were a bit of a mistake in the first place? Or at the very least, there was ALWAYS something much more attractive that meant they were passed by.
You're both right!
But that's what this challenge is all about: read 'em and get 'em off the shelves. These will be BookCrossing and BookMooch fodder... and then there will be room for more books!! Yay!!

I like your Spring glasses. Hayes! :)
Thank you. They're supposed to be Easter Eggs, but it's hard to see them so small.
Thanks for the Checkpoint Post! Mistress of the Art of Death is still up the road on my climb. I'll check out your review once I've conquered it.
It had the advantage of being a page turner, so I think you'll get through it pretty quickly. You've managed to read so many books! Before I joined GR I considered myself a fast reader, but then discovered that I am a rank amateur!
I'm a true noob in comparison to most of you!
Just finishing up Cover Her Face, which is a re-read so doesn't count for the challenge. Always a pleasure as James writes so well.

She did until she wrote Death Comes to Pemberley!

Girl in Hyacinth Blue
Seabiscuit (reading this one now)
Suite Francaise
I've also read both of these: Cutting for Stone
and The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks.
Isn't Cutting for Stone just fabulous? Henrietta Lacks will be fab I know, but I have just started. I'll be reading those three before too long, so if you want to join me, let me know.

As for the other three, I'll keep my eye out for when you start them. I'll try to join you if I can. I have a list mapped out for April. Seabiscuit is on that list. I've only read about 30 pages so far, but I can tell that I'm really going to like it. I love Hillenbrand's writing - have you read Unbroken?
No, seabiscuit will be the first. I am an ex-horse fanatic (when I was 12 I drove my city-bred mother to near insanity with my love for large 4-legged creatures), so I think I will love Seabiscuit too.
My husband read Seabiscuit and really enjoyed it.

I'm a noob too, sometimes I can be a jealous noob when I see what others are capable of reading, but most of the time I happily accept my noobdom (aka slowmoville).
Good to know I'm not alone. :)
