Firelight discussion

Sooo I'm reading Vanish and a thought occurred to me, what do draki look like?

At first I figured they looked like normal dragons. Because in Firelight we read this about manifesting:
"And the familiar pull begins in my chest. My human exterior melts away, fades, replaced with my thicker draki skin.

My face tightens, cheeks sharpening, subtly shifting, stretching. My breath changes as my nose shifts, ridges pushing out from the bridge. My limbs loosen and lengthen. The drag of my bones feels good."

and this:
"My wings grow, slightly longer than the length of my back. The gossamer width of them pushes free. They unfurl with a soft whisper on the air—a sigh."

So in my mind Jacinda in draki form looks something like this:


but now in Vanish it says:
" I take off, get sucked up into wind and air. Feel the long strands of my hair lift up off my shoulders in a fiery storm." (this is in draki form)

Soooo she has hair in her draki form!
As soon as I read this she looking in my head more like this:

a human girl with scales and wings.

But that doesn't correspond with the earlier description of the manifestation. AND if she looks like that Will would have recognized her in her human form as the Draki he saved. AND the biggest secret that the Draki can look like humans wouldn't be a real secret, would it?

So I came to the conclusion she must look like a dragon with hair. Which looks kinda silly in my head! lol.

Which, I guess, comes closest to my visual of a draki now.

So what do you guys think? How do you view the draki in your minds eye?

Even though the detailing was good, i could not envision a dragon which the author described. So i go with the normal dragon with red hair.

Well in the book they say the hunters don't know that the draki can change into humans so i would have to say that the draki look like real dragons but are more smaller and have hair

It's been awhile but I remember that the author describes her facial structure becomes more square and sharp? Maybe I forget.

im confused as much as you all are so i say why don't we tell her or asks to get you know kinda a similar sketch of what kind of dragon she have in mind cause theres a sense when jucinda get in the car with will in her draki form so from that moment i stopped Imagining any dragons .

I believe it is the latter. She is a dragon with hair. Yeah, kinda weird, but whatever.

I was seeing dragons. haha. And i just pictured like dragon people when they were only partially phased. like scales, claws, wings, tail. When she mentioned the hair, i pictured like a main going down the head rather than a tupe type thing on top of a dragon. O_o

I thought that they would be like humans but with scales? i don't know this book was bad when it came to descriptions so i ignored most of them and came up with my own ideas. In my mind they are like the 3rd pick shown in the first post-minus the hair

There will be a movie?WTF!!UGH. Okay the book was good, not enough to be made into a movie though. It lacked a purpose, the first book I mean. I haven't read the rest of the series, not sure if any of the other books are even out yet. But really?I mean the book was okay, but like I said before, it lacked a purpose.

Think of the draki looking like Haku from spritied away, don't know if any of you've seen spirtied away. Thats how I pictured draki.

I saw them as humans with scales,tail, and wings. With subtle differences as far as facial features go.

Molly Tompson I had a picture of a dragon with different features and colors depending on the Draki the person was.. I always forgot about the hair..

This can't be happening! Ok, the book was lovely, it was. But it's got essence of 'Twilight' and I can't have dragons being ruined for the public eye too! THIS HAS TO BE SURREAL. D:

I was writing a story, far different to this love drama.
A in depth detail of dragons and how they live in the devil's triangle, separated from human contact.
I wanted this side of dragons to be known to the public, not... THIS.
I like it, it's a good book. But look at how many haters there are out there! IT WILL BE RUINED. The entire mythical existence of dragons will be mocked!
No longer will they be epic! :(
This is ludicrous.

I imagined they're the same size as humans and like fully dragon looking. But do they have clothes on when they demanifest? Cuz no one ever acts like they're naked so . . . ?

From what I got out of the second book they don't manifest enough to destroy their pants, cause it's mentioned that Cassian demanifests with his ripped pants. But, shirts are toast because of the wings and that's why Jacinda gets a blanket while she's in the car with Will after demanifesting.

i think they look some what like this:
a a humaniod like bieng covered with scales and a dragonlike head. with hair on thier neck and heads.

I had a really hard time picturing the appearance of draki since the moment Sophie Jordan added the hair detail.

Thanks for the (last) picture. I finally got my mind to return to normal draki-imagining state.

I, too, like many of you, had the picture of draki a little uncertain, but I tried to imagine beautiful creatures such as that black dragon as onyx draki and different colors for the rest kind of draki.

In mi mind they all have sparkly, kind of glittery, scales.

Just finished Firelight on Sunday. And I have to agree with earlier comments that I was envisioning regular dragons like in the first pic the original poster posted. But yea then the hair descriptions totally threw me off as well.

So after reading that I'm thinking something like in message 15. That only seems like the most logical way that the draki could have hair without looking totally strange.

Will be interesting to see how this all would play out in a movie format. Hopefully better than Twilight.

There's not currently going to be a movie that trailer is just a book trailer it just kind of advertises what the book is about and makes you want to read it.

Actually, there are articles linked below the book trailer that say Mandalay has bought the rights and that they've gotten people signed on for it.

So I've read the three books and I'm wondering what kind of Draki Deghan is. If anyone has a clue, please tell me. (And sorry if this is sort of a spoiler for anyone who hasn't read the other two books.

I kind of thought they'd look like human-sized biped reptilians with wings and human hair, and humanoid hands. Big, batlike wings but less leathery and more . . . I almost want to say butterfly-like. She kept saying "gossamer", so I assume they're delicate.
Humanoid faces. I know she describes them as having ridges or something on their noses, but also that they're close enough to humans in appearance to make the enkros uncomfortable but not animal enough to be seen as just monsters, or something like that. So I'm thinking Voldemort-style lips (as in none at all) and a strong jaw and high cheekbones, but human eyebrows and a generally human-shaped face, but with spikes on their noses and weird dragon-mouths and large reptilian/cat eyes. And tails? She never mentioned them, though it'd make sense.

I don't like the idea of a human girl with wing, scales or whatever. It is disgusting and I don't think people would hunt them if they looked anything like human.

Actually, the hunters are just doing the bidding of the Enkros who use draki skin, blood, and bones for various things, because they were payed quite a bit.

Anyways, this has bothered me for a long time, and rereading the series I notice Jordan tends to make them more human, like saying "On the balls of my feet, I spring into the air" and of course the entire hair thing. All evidence would lead me to see them as humanoid (which sucks! being a full out dragon sounds so much cooler!), if it weren't for the wings. Jacinda says her wings are a little longer than the length of her back, and having, let's say, two and a half foot long wings just wouldn't make sense. In Maximum Ride, Max even talks about how, because they're so heavy as humans, they have to have really long wings. So that makes me think they're actually more dragon like.

Also, as one last point, sometimes I wonder if draki have, like, two types of manifestation. One where they're humanoid and another where they're more dragon-like. But honestly, Jordan didn't do a great job (in my opinion!) of describing how any of the characters looked in draki form. She didn't give us much to work with.

Somebody here said that there's a movie coming out based on this book. If it's true, can someone please tell me name of the movie? Cuz I think it'd be amazing if they really did something like that.

It is in production, but no actors/actresses have been chosen. No information on anything really.

I just picture the Draki to have the form of a human, but their features are more prominent. On the cover, she still has her human face, but you can see her turning into her Draki form. Her skin changes, and her face becomes sharper in a way that is unrecognizable. She grows wings, and maybe a tail, I don't really remember. She keeps the human figure, but looks like a creature. Her face is more defined, and looks different with the scales and chiseled figures which is why Will couldn't recognize her.

It might not even come out. There is no information about it, but yes, it is "in production."

ohhh okay now I'm curious about this....there should be a movie about it..that would be amazing...though I must ask why is there not an air draki in the series?
