Great list, Lee! And already 2 down. I went for the smallest mountain, because I tend to change my mind all the time. :)

message 3: by Lee (new)

Lee (leekat) Thanks Jeannette, I'm debating whether or not to add Anna Karenina....

message 4: by [deleted user] (new)

Hey, do you own A Tale of Two Cities? Summer buddy-read!

message 5: by Lee (new)

Lee (leekat) Nope, but I do own some other Dickens.

message 6: by [deleted user] (new)

How about The Master and Margarita? I don't own it, but it's our proposed Fall buddy-read. Hayes is just pushing me merrily along....

message 7: by Lee (new)

Lee (leekat) Darn, I've already read it! I'll have to check both your lists to see if we have any owned books in common.

message 8: by [deleted user] (new)

Well, To2C, I do own, and it will be my first Dickens, not counting Christmas Carol. I don't own Master & Margarita, but I think Hayes does, and I can't remember who else. I am willing to swap out from my list in order to do a buddy-read. :) (I don't own a lot of books that I haven't read. I usually buy a book after I know I like it!)

Dawn (& Ron) (furryreaders) | 456 comments Good luck Lee!

Just curious, it seems most people are putting up a list of expected reads. I think I'm one of the minority who is listing them as I read them simply because it would be too hard to know what I want to read weeks from now, never mind months from now. I'm just not as disciplined as the rest of you.

message 10: by Jemidar (new)

Jemidar | 358 comments I'm listing as I go too Dawn. I would never be able to decide what I want to read in advance.

message 11: by Lee (new)

Lee (leekat) I probably won't end up reading every book on my list but I'm putting it up there as motivation. Thanks for the encouragement~!

message 12: by Manybooks (new)

Manybooks Betsy Tacy is wonderful, hmm, I might consider Roughing it in the Bush as a buddy read, I've been wanting to read that book for years (or reread it, we read a small part of it in school).

message 13: by Lee (new)

Lee (leekat) Cool! It looks really interesting. If you're up for anytime this year, let me know. I'd love to buddy read with you.

Maybe in the summer sometime, I have to locate my copy first.

message 15: by Lee (new)

Lee (leekat) Okey dokey!

If I did not do a list, I would never get my challenge off the ground (it's not that I am orgnaised, but that I am unorganised); I would be sunk without a list.

message 17: by Lee (new)

Lee (leekat) I would probably flounder as well. I'm hoping the list will keep me focused on my goal.

message 18: by [deleted user] (new)

And Lee is here too! Yay!

message 19: by Lee (new)

Lee (leekat) Hoohaa!

message 20: by Dawn (& Ron) (new)

Dawn (& Ron) (furryreaders) | 456 comments I guess Jemidar and I are the minority then. Maybe besides not knowing what I will want to read throughout the year, it is also because I have so many to choose from. Making a list just seems so overwhelming to me.

message 21: by Jemidar (new)

Jemidar | 358 comments My TBR pile lives in a very large bookcase in my bedroom so I really don't need a list because I have 400+ books staring at me whenever I walk into the room and to meet this challenge all I've got to do is go over and pick one :-).

Kim (kimmr) Lee wrote: "Hoohaa!"

Hi Lee! *waves*

message 23: by Dawn (& Ron) (new)

Dawn (& Ron) (furryreaders) | 456 comments Jemidar, that's my situation too. You sound like us with your own mini library to choose from, so how can we make a list when we have all those to pick from?

message 24: by Lee (new)

Lee (leekat) I have a large bookcase in my bedroom where all my un-read books live too. My list is made up of some of the books I'd really like to get to this year but it's just as likely that I will not be in the mood for any of them and veer off in another direction!

message 25: by Jemidar (last edited Mar 27, 2012 03:30AM) (new)

Jemidar | 358 comments I mostly didn't do a list because like you I figured I would veer off it and it would prove to be a pointless exercise. When I did a Heyer Challenge a while ago I dutifully listed the books I wanted to read and then ended up reading just about everything but the ones I listed, so I know from experience it doesn't work for me. But having said that, there are some I know I will read this year because they're scheduled for buddy reads :-).

message 26: by Lee (new)

Lee (leekat) I'd love to do buddy reads too because I know they would keep me in line but unfortunately my list of books is not full of titles that are popular.

I enjoy reading Heyer occasionally for comfort.

message 27: by Jemidar (new)

Jemidar | 358 comments I usually have to do my NF reading on my own, but Kim and I tend to have similar tastes in fiction so have quite a stack to get through together. Buddy reads certainly keep you committed and are of lots of fun. Reading with Kim has certainly helped me get through more books!

message 28: by Lee (new)

Lee (leekat) That's great you have a good friend to read with who shares your taste in fiction. I love Kim.

message 29: by Jemidar (new)

Jemidar | 358 comments So do I :-).

Same here, I jump where the mood sends me.

*waves*

Hi Lee, the more the merrier :)

message 33: by Lee (new)

Lee (leekat) Hi Misfit! Your status updates on the feed keep me mightily entertained on some days. :-)

message 34: by [deleted user] (new)

Me, too!

message 35: by Lee (new)

Lee (leekat) Kim, you are like a delicious piece of my favourite cake; complex, memorable and the perfect balance of sweet and tart!

That is a lovely compliment, Lee, particularly given how I feel about cake!

message 37: by Lee (new)

Lee (leekat) Cake rates pretty high in my world too!

Status updates are fun :)

message 39: by Lee (new)

Lee (leekat) Yours in particular catch my eye. The photos and those funny, racy historicals with the hilarious descriptions of body parts. Love it!

message 40: by Misfit (new)

Misfit | 198 comments I live to amuse, although Karla is heads and tails ahead of me :p

message 41: by Kim (new)

Kim (kimmr) Lee, when you get around to it, I wouldn't mind reading Rooftops of Tehran with you. I'm bit of a sucker for books by Iranians / about Iran (as you can probably see from my shelves). I don't own it, but I can see if I can rustle up a copy.

message 42: by Lee (new)

Lee (leekat) Sure, anytime! If and when you get a hold of a copy, I can read it.

message 43: by Kim (new)

Kim (kimmr) Excellent. I'll look into it. I added it to Mt TBR when I saw it on you list the other day.

message 44: by Manybooks (new)

Manybooks Even though it would not be part of the challenge, since I don't own the book, I would love to do a buddy read for Out of Africa.

message 45: by Lee (new)

Lee (leekat) Sure! I've been wanting to read it for a long time. I don't know why I haven't picked it up yet. Let me know when you're in the mood.

That is really cool.

message 47: by Jemidar (new)

Jemidar | 358 comments It's the only way I can keep track of them!

message 48: by Lee (new)

Lee (leekat) I just finished reading my first Lee Child book which a friend gave to me a few years ago as a joke thinking I'd never read it. Little did he know, I love adventure/action/thriller/mystery type books and I've just created a new shelf in honour of Killing Floor called "man fluff".

message 49: by Lee (new)

Lee (leekat) Oh boy, I'm way behind on this challenge. I've started several of the books on my list and put them down in favour of lots of library "comfort reads".

I'm way behind as well, so you are not the only one :-)
