I enjoyed it, I thought it was interesting. I liked how the girl seemed to save the guy as much as the other way around.

It's about the google+ discussion Felicia and the ladies had. Not sure if I should post it here or on youtube, but at abt 1:05 in you talked about no lesbian relationships in fantasy books, just lots of men on men action. I read a C.E. Murphy book who's main character is a lesbian, and I think there is some lady action. Can't remember the name of the book, was not that into the story. Also, I thought I had read something about how the most popular erotica read by women had man/man sex in it. Be it menage a trois or more. Just thought I'd put that out there

Also, we've seen Alex's sister and father, but are we ever going to see her brother later in the series?

I did like Alex's powers and the way the city works with witches. Also I re-watched the hangout and the ladies talked about the book for like 5 mins, ha!

I did like Alex, she reminded me of a more relatable Anita Blake.
Wasn't really a fan of the ice fae guy, the first impression stuck, I think I'd prefer the book actually if john never went into a coma instantly and instead he was a more prominent character and ice fae took a back seat.

Mandatory grumbly noise: I thought the magic system should have been a bit more fleshed out, some of the conflict resolutions that involved magic or Alex's powers fell a bit flat. I don't have any other significant complaints, I'll probably return to this series when the mood strikes.

I didn't hate any of the characters, which is always nice, and it felt like a solid enough base for a series to me.
Could have done with more Death, since he was one of the main draws of the book.

Also i am totally rooting for Death, i hope he'll be more in the next book.

I do agree that there was a lot going on in this book: for me it was how the magic works. The author seems to describe it a lot but I couldn't really picture how it all really worked. I'm still wondering if it's me who wasn't paying enough attention in certain sections and forgot important details or if there are just a lot of holes in this part of the world building.
I did enjoy the book though; it was a fun read and, despite the magic problem, I never felt frustrated reading this, not by the writing, the plot holes, the characters, nothing. I even don't mind Falin!

I don't want to sneek into a whole series thread, but I wonder if the magic is explained a bit better in the following books. It's a shame cause the author spent a lot of time describing it, but it still didn't make any sense in how it actually worked.
That being said, I loved the book!
edit: I'm so happy we re-read this book this month. At least I enjoyed one of the books for the month of May!!!

I've been thinking about why some books in this general vein work for me and others don't. I think it's at least partly because the protagonist isn't always going on about being a screwup, she has good friends, and NOT every guy is madly in love ((view spoiler) ). Hope the triangle goes away at some point.

The lore could be more fleshed out, but the way we just dove in and it gradually revealed how Alex’s powers worked, was probably my favourite part of the book.
I’m all for Falin, over Death, but I haven’t read the sequels yet, so who knows?
It kept me up til 3am, because I had to finish it. So, can’t say I didn’t enjoy it.
