I hope this book will be palatable. I do not like most Christian books as I do not share the faith and find the assumptions about christianity being the only way to live offensive.

"I'm an agnostic so I don't follow ANY faith, but to be fair to Christianity, they are not the only ones who think following their faith is the only way to live. Most other religions suffer from the same problem. :)

If you find you don't like it, you might try one of the Love Languages books. The name is a bit of a put-off, but they're quick reads and suggest ways of looking at what we need from each other that can be helpful in thinking about relationships.
There are several of them, by Gary Chapman. They're shelved on the Christian shelf, but I didn't feel hit over the head with the assumptions like I do with some books.

I agree. My comment was simply my feelings about the shelf I needed to chose a book from.
That's why I don't read Christian fiction either. Although I'm open to any book where the characters are religious if it's about the character and theres no preaching.
