Erica | 14 comments Humph. Ya know guys? I thought Breaking Dawn was a bad way to end the greatest series ever. Bella was bagging on humans the moment she wasn't one!!! Anyone with me?

message 2: by Karina (new)

Karina I don't know about that. I do know that it was the worset book ever and that I'm currently trying to sell my copy to someone.

message 3: by Erica (new)

Erica | 14 comments I agree I pawned mine off to my friend but I feel bad now because I probably ruined her vision of all the twilight books too.

message 4: by Michelle (new)

Michelle (michellerobins) okay, honestly, curiously asking, why didnt you guys like breaking dawn?

message 5: by Karina (new)

Karina I have a long list. I'll write it down, it might take a while though.

message 6: by Michelle (new)

Michelle (michellerobins) lol okay

message 7: by Karina (last edited Dec 31, 2008 03:41PM) (new)

Karina Okay. it actually may not be that long but....

Okay first off, they're getting married? Bella isn't mautre enough to do that, her character isn't anyway. Then Jacob comes back, just like that?

Then the Island. Okay, worst lemon writing ever! But that wasn't important. It what happened after, that was so stupid!!! Her getting pregnate? Okay, SM broke her own rules, that's like ugh!!!

Then the entire book Edwrad is all in pity beacuse he feels horrible about what he did to her. Absolutly no love.

Bella suddenly develps as a chracter way to fast and becomes a mom.

Jasper's personality is totally switched around.

Charlie finds out and dosn't freak out about it.

Jacob imprints on something whose names is ugh.

The whole book you read about some battle that never happened.

Bella drinks blood even though it makes her sick.

She suddenly becomes this graceful vampire even though she's a clutz.

The ending was practically taken from HP7

It seemed that she wrote it for the sake of earining money

She didn't let any of her characters develop

Edward called Jacob his SON!!!!

message 8: by I ♥ Luke Castellan *Alexa*, and Twilight! (new)

I ♥ Luke Castellan *Alexa* (i_love_jacob_black_95) | 3164 comments Well the end of HP7 was way better. It was closed and not all open. Voldemort was dead. He could not come back. However....

The Volturi COULD come back at any time, it was so cheesy. I mean, they just ran away? That is so not Jane.

I love Jasper, but he was ALL wrong. He was way to happy and talkative!

Carlisle has been a doctor for hundreds of years. HOW DID HE NOT KNOW ABOUT THIS??!!

Charlie wasn't even freaked out enough. Most fathers would have drive to their daughter, no matter what.

I was really mad with the build-up for battle, then like nothing happens.

I was crying because of Edward, and how... depressed he was. It was scary.

Jacob coming back so fast? That didn't make sense, but it was good. I missed him.

What about Renee? I mean, couldn't she fly over to see her daughter!? I would have!

Bella matured waaayy to fast to be real.

Overall, Breaking Dawn wasn't a very good ending. It was kinda exaggerated, and not very satisfying in the end.

message 9: by Christy (new)

Christy I agree. I didn't live up to the hype that was created before it was released. It seemed a little like fan fiction than a continuation of the story.

message 10: by I ♥ Luke Castellan *Alexa*, and Twilight! (new)

I ♥ Luke Castellan *Alexa* (i_love_jacob_black_95) | 3164 comments Yeah, just a fan-fic. It didn't really end the series.

message 11: by Jenn (new)

Jenn uh..hi, im new here!

personally, i liked breaking dawn, tho parts were a bit disappointing, im not gonna list em here cuz i just wrote my review of it and i am NOT rewriting that whole thing again! lol so if u want my take on it, just check out my review of it (duh, lol!)

message 12: by Anita (new)

Anita | 30 comments Bella suddenly develps as a chracter way to fast and becomes a mom. (and names her kid a fug name)

TOTALLY AGREE...
also way to not give me any details of the 'romance' but give me all the gory 'reprocussions' of it. boo LOL. The island was soo lame :( *sigh*

message 13: by Faith (new)

Faith | 84 comments I didn't hate Breaking Dawn at all. I kind of went in phases. First I loved the honeymoon, it was sweet, kind of cringe worthy, but sweet. Now the pregnant bit.....thats where i went off it. I HATED the whole pregnancy bit, with Bella just sat there all the time. However Jacob and Rosalie were a highlight. When they got the baby out it picked up again, I liked the whole Edward/Bella scenes and the Jacob imprinting. It was freaky at first but a good twist. Unfortunetly the battle was a let down...but i thought overall i was happy with the ending. I liked it enough to read the whole series again anyway.

message 14: by Amira (new)

Amira (liightningbolt) What a disappointment Breaking Dawn was. It really seemed like she didn't care anymore about the Twilight Saga. How could everything end up so happily-ever-after? I reckon she was concentrating on 'The Host' more (which was SO much better). BD will definitely not be a book I will be re-reading any time soon.

P.S. *cringe at the suggested HP reference*

message 15: by Karina (new)

Karina I absoultly hated that Jaco imprinted. And the Battle scene was a big let down.

Amira, I totally agree with what you think of BD. I can personally say that Breaking Dawn will not be seeing the sunlight any time soon. (It's in my closet under alllll my backpacks and bags.)

Faith | 84 comments Amira wrote: "What a disappointment Breaking Dawn was. It really seemed like she didn't care anymore about the Twilight Saga. How could everything end up so happily-ever-after? I reckon she was concentrating on ..."

Wasn't a big fan of the Host really. I think actually preferred BD, therefore if she was putting all her efforts into that book, it was a poor job.

message 17: by Sherry (new)

Sherry (ninneschong) Okay, I'm pretty sure I'm going to get my butt kicked on this forum, but hey! Everyone is entitled to their own opinion, so I'm going to try to respect those who have said that they didn't like the book. Please show some respect for my opinion too.

Personally, I loved the book. I read all 4 books in 5 days (an amazing feat for a single mom with 2 kids and a ft job). So here's my responses to some things said - I'm trying not to respond to EVERYTHING (I really don't want to be "that girl" on the forum)...

they're getting married? Bella isn't mautre enough to do that, her character isn't anyway. In the first books, it was established that Bella had always taken care of Renee - protected her from the bad ideas and humored her with innocent whims (I think she refers to pottery classes and gardening). When she moved to Forks, she picked up the caretaker routine with taking care of Charlie and the house. Renee even refers to Bella being born middle-aged. Keep in mind other factors not mentioned in the book - Bella is an only child, they tend to be more adult-like at an earlier age. Especially if they are put in responsible roles at a young age and not spoiled.

It what happened after, that was so stupid!!! Her getting pregnate? If it hadn't happened, there wouldn't have been much of a plot. LOL

Then the entire book Edwrad is all in pity beacuse he feels horrible about what he did to her. Absolutly no love. I didn't see Edward's actions as pity and without love. He was tearing himself apart inside because Bella was dying. If he had been strong enough to tell her no, to deny her wanting to experience sex as a human, she would have never gotten pregnant in the first place. He's guilty, he's angry, he's watching the love of his life that he waited 90 years for DIE. In his mind, she doesn't need to. The "thing" can be removed and Bella wouldn't have to die. He's angry at her for taking her life for a creature that they wouldn't know what it would be.

Charlie finds out and dosn't freak out about it. Charlie and Bella are very much alike. When Bella found out Edward was a vampire, she didn't freak or run for the hills. She accepted it because it didn't change her love for Edward. Charlie has the same personality as Bella, and as a parent, you love your children regardless of what they become. Vampires included. It follows the "love endures" theme that SM set in the other 3 books.

Jacob imprints on something whose names is ugh. Yeah, I have my own thoughts about the name too. It took me awhile to get used to it. But so help me... if I ever hear of a Twilight fan naming a real child that... I may not be responsible for my actions. Otherwise, I didn't have a problem with Jacob imprinting with Nessie. It (maybe too conveniently) settled why Jacob loved Bella. Why Bella loved Jacob and couldn't let him go. Nessie hadn't been born yet so she was still part of Bella. Jacob couldn't imprint until Nessie became separate from Bella.

The whole book you read about some battle that never happened. As explained in the previous books: Alice's visions are subjective to choices. In this case, there were so many people involved in the battle, so many different powers... if the battle had happened, I think everyone would have been wiped out.

Okay... that's all I have time for at the moment. I'll be back with more of my opinions. I'm interested to hear what others have to say!

message 18: by Paige (new)

Paige | 90 comments BD was my least favorite! i was one of the people who WANTED a battle to happen! it was too perfect for my tastes! (but was still a good book)

Faith | 84 comments Sherry wrote: "Okay, I'm pretty sure I'm going to get my butt kicked on this forum, but hey! Everyone is entitled to their own opinion, so I'm going to try to respect those who have said that they didn't like the..."

Ok i agree with most of what you said. Especially when you talked about Bella looking after Renee, very well picked out! But im not so sure about the battle part. Yes Alice's vision are subjective and so forth but to me thats a poor excuse! I think it came across a little lazy just to pass it off as "this is why the battle didn't happen" on her part i mean. Maybe if such a big part wasn't about the battle i wouldn't feel so cheated, but it was like "oh forget all the pre battle bits it was never really important i just added it to bulk out the book a little more and they all lived happily ever after". She could have come up with something different if she really didn't have the patience to go through with the battle.

message 20: by Sherry (new)

Sherry (ninneschong) Faith, I agree. It was kind of a cop-out - both in my reasoning and SM's. This is what I told a friend in an email discussion about the anti-climatic ending: Very disappointing. I'm trying to justify it in my head, but it's not working for me. Almost sounds like Stephenie Meyer (SM) is leaving an opening for a sequel at some point in the future. The book worked for me up until the last 50 pages. I mean, the stage was all set for a big boom... and then there's only a little pffft of smoke and it's over. Seriously, Aros gang didn't even throw a single punch? In my head there's the thought that the Cullens had amassed a large amount of powerful allies... maybe if the battle had gone, no one would have been left standing in the end and what kind of fun would that have been? I wonder if SM wrote a bunch of endings or just one? I'd love to pick her brains for five minutes.

To add to what I told my friend... I think SM may have been trying to save face. Unlike JK Rowling who wasn't afraid to kill off beloved characters, I think SM was trying to not have any of her characters draw the short straw. Other than characters such as James, Laurent, Victoria and newborns... who really died in the books? No one. I wouldn't have minded if that little freak Jane had died though.

message 22: by Sherry (new)

Sherry (ninneschong) Alexa, I know! Jane was a creepy little twit. I heard that Dakota Fanning is playing her in the New Moon movie. I have a hard time with that. Couldn't they find a little troll to play Jane?

message 24: by Karina (new)

Karina Irina died.

message 25: by Faith (new)

Faith | 84 comments I didn't like Jane either. I think they could have killed a few others off, although i won't go into who or i'll be kicked off this discussion board altogether lol. I would also love to sit down with SM and discuss the battle. To me it was the one big let down of the book, and i think if she came out and discussed why it turned out the way it did, maybe i would be more forgiving!

message 26: by Sherry (new)

Sherry (ninneschong) Karina ~ Yep, Irina did die - but I think most readers felt it was justified because she brought Volturi down on the Cullens. I don't consider her a "beloved" character - unlike if Alice or any of the other Cullens died.

Faith ~ I read an interview where SM said she was going for a court-room battle scene instead of a physical battle. My own personal thought: possibly sending a "stop the violence" message to the kiddies?

message 28: by Nicole (new)

Nicole (2dogcrazy) Breaking Dawn was the BEST one of them all. I mean, it was kind of gross, but, VERY interesting to read about.

message 29: by [deleted user] (new)

i don't like it cuz its gross!

message 30: by Sherry (new)

Sherry (ninneschong) The only point I really was grossed out was when Bella vomited blood. It may have been because I was eating at the time, but that threw me (no pun intended). I guess once you have kids, most things lose their gross factor.

message 31: by Karina (new)

Karina Sherry- you just asked who died and I gave you a name. Lol.

Greek Vampire Pixie- THANK YOU! Finally someone who agrees 100% :D

message 32: by Stacy (new)

Stacy | 2 comments I liked it but it was not my fav one. the whole birth thing and blood kinda grossed me out. even having kids it got a little much i think. It tied up a lot of loose ends which was good. All in all the books are great and i love them.

message 33: by Katy (new)

Katy (ktdone) I'm surprised to hear people didn't like the book because it grossed them out, that didn't bother me. I was disappointed by BD because the fight scene at the end just sort of fizzled and everything all of a sudden was perfect in the vampire world. Too easy.

message 34: by Natalia (new)

Natalia (natcullen) | 43 comments WHAAAAAT??!! BD WAS ABSOLUTELY FANTASTIC! HOW COULD YOU BE DISSAPOINTED WITH THIS AMAZING BOOK? I MEAN IS...PERFECT!BD HAS A LOT OF SURPRISES IN EVERY PAGE LIKE RENESMEE(i love her).THIS IS MY FAVORITE BOOK AFTER TWILIGHT BUT...WHAT ABOUT LEAH?

message 35: by [deleted user] (new)

i liked bd

message 36: by Sherry (new)

Sherry (ninneschong) Karina wrote: "Sherry- you just asked who died and I gave you a name. Lol. It was kind of a rhetorical question... I think most people understood what I was getting at: that only the characters that the reader was not allowed to form an attachment to died.

That said, I don't think BD was a bad book. It was an emotional roller coaster for me - and reading the book from Jacob's POV was especially heartbreaking for me, it was a relief to put the book down at times. It's taken me a few weeks after finishing it, if you had asked me two weeks ago, I still wouldn't have been happy with the ending, that's how much I think about these books *grins the way an obsessed fan only can*. I think that if SM had followed through with the battle, we all would have been disgusted because almost everyone died. She was facing fan criticism anyways, so why not give her Twilighters, her characters, the happy ending they want? The other thought that has occured to me is that we're talking about vampires. Immortals who have survived for hundreds of years by using their heads. I don't think any of them would have wanted to survive human detection, to have fought to protect their own way of life, for so long to have it destroyed in a battle over a half immortal child.

*steps down from soapbox* That's just my thoughts!

message 37: by [deleted user] (new)

it was good and all but i wish there was less info on the grosser stuff and more on the fights and ending.

message 39: by Mikayla (new)

Mikayla | 76 comments Can I list all the things I didn't like about the book too?

Each of the books did change the story and kind of the feel of the story a lot but BD changed it wayyy too dramatically. And I don't think it fit well with the rest of the saga, and there were many things that I disliked about the book.

message 40: by [deleted user] (new)

lol I totally agree! she made it sound like humans are so naive and horrible but, hello? um, you're a human 2! (or, well, used 2 b)
i thought that stephenie meyer let down alot of mother and daughters; moms were rly happy that edward and bella were saving themselves for marriage, etc., and then stephenie meyer just had to make it X-rated!!

PS. i just saw the trailer for the new twilight movie and it looks AWESOME :D

message 44: by Sherry (new)

Sherry (ninneschong) "i thought that stephenie meyer let down alot of mother and daughters; moms were rly happy that edward and bella were saving themselves for marriage, etc., and then stephenie meyer just had to make it X-rated!!" LOL apparently you have never read a book in the romance genre. Breaking Dawn (which I'm currently re-reading) is pretty PG-13. I've seen worse at the movie theater with the same rating.

message 45: by Della (new)

Della | 62 comments lol okay maybe i was exaggerating about the 'x rated' thing ;)
but i still feel like breaking dawn was a dissapointment on many fronts

message 46: by Celia (new)

Celia Guzi (celiahearts) i despise mom bella

she's 18 and she has no fear. she's like, oh, protect my baby, it's eating me alive, but i will sacrifice my meager, worthless life for her!

what a goody-two-shoes!

message 47: by Della (new)

Della | 62 comments her character isn't really ready/mature enough to have a child! i mean, who is at 18? even you have a vampire boyfriend, that doesn't make you invincable from being overwhelmed by a teenage pregnancy

message 48: by [deleted user] (new)

Things that bothered me about Breaking Dawn

• Stephenie skipped a lot between the end of Eclipse and the beginning of Breaking Dawn. We didn't get to see the wedding preparations, or Bella freaking out as would be true to her character. We didn't get to see people's reactions, it just came to us all in a flashback of some sort. Also, the epilogue to Eclipse was never validated. Jacob ran away because he was in so much pain, and then she just skipped right over that. I feel like I was tricked into a cliffhanger that was later ignored.

• I wish Charlie would have freaked out more, in all the books, Bella was very worried about letting him know anything because she was sure he would freak out. Now, either Bella was really paranoid, or Charlie just wasn't written correctly.

Edward, stop it! I feel like Edward was a bit whiny in the book, and slightly forceful when it came to Bella. He felt like an authority figure in the first part of the book, which wasn't romantic at all. And I realized I had a pet-peeve of people using odd nicknames. Out of no where Edward, who used to just call Bella by her name, (They don't need baby names they love each other, right?) now started calling her love. "Bella, love, would you listen to me?" "How are you, love" Since when did he do that?

Where, oh where, have the Cullens gone? The Cullens were used to push the story forward a little, but other than that, we didn't really see much of them. Emmett was reduced to making a few remarks about sex, in the final book. Rosalie was just an anecdote for the protection of Renesmee. Those two didn't really get the chance to do anything profound. Why was Rosalie reduced to being a shallow pool after finally opening up and sharing her story with Bella in Eclipse? She demonstrated that she cared about more than just herself, but her family, and to some extent, Bella's humanity. Now, she's only in it for the baby? Stephenie what were you thinking?! Alice left taking Jasper, who I must admit, makes things rather interesting. Then, we spend the rest of the book being pushed on the fact that she did it for selfish reasons, and she was leaving the Cullens out to dry. That's not something Alice would do. And the ending felt like it was added in as an afterthought, just so we don't feel bad.

• I honestly don't think that I would have been pleased with any ending that occurred. If Edward would have found a way to be human, I would have felt cheated, and that would bother me. If Bella had become a vampire, which she did, I would have felt cheated as well. Like it was just something to pander to the fans, and make us giggle with delight. That's why I would really and truly, rather it end unresolved. Edward and Bella should always be seen that way, as a forbidden love, an inexplicable attraction between predator and prey. "The lion and the lamb". Somehow, the lion and the lion isn't as endearing.

I feel like Stephenie should have cut out the cop-out epilogue that she never used, and ended it there. Edward proposed to Bella, she finally agreed to spend her life with him, and that both scared and thrilled her. Jacob was healing, both figuratively and emotionally. He had finally admitted that he couldn't win, and he was ready to move on. That is my ideal end.

♥Team Trilogy
