Cary (vortigern) | 344 comments The French Monk Augustine Calmet wrote a very interesting book on magic, ghosts, witches & vampires circa 1750 now in publication as The Phantom World. It constains parts of a much earlier text called the Magia Posthuma. It has some interesting coments on early vampires.
Emily Gerard wrote on of the best books on Romainian folklore & vampires called The Land Beyond the Trees. That is what the word Transylvania means.
In the 1875 vampire story Carmilla by Sheridan Le Fanu. The vampire Carmilla sleeps in the early monring in a leaden lined casket filled with blood.
Although Vlad Dracul was never associated with vampirism before Braum Stokers great vampire work Dracula. He certainly makes a great historic person to choose as a vampire. Stoker was going to call Dracula by the name Count Vampyre when he stumbled across the bloody history of the real Prince Vlad Dracul. He changed the name at once for his story. A good thing too. The name Dracula just smacks of evil.
You might check out the Comte Saint Germaine who was said to be a vampire, alchemist.
