Jen (geekybookgal) | 159 comments I have found a new favorite fantasy book!! Graceling (Graceling Realm, #1) by Kristin Cashore is really different and well thought out, and the main character Katsa is both likeable and strong.

Am on to the next in the series, Fire Fire (Graceling Realm, #2) by Kristin Cashore , but from what I see it's written about other characters in the Seven Kingdoms. I hope it has another strong woman I can relate to in it. Seems I have been reading way too many books with wimpy females in them lately! I love kick butt girls!

Anyone else love this series?

message 2: by Julie (new)

Julie Reece I read Graceling a couple of years ago and really liked it. :)

Rebecca | 453 comments Yep, I love Graceling and Fire. Can't wait for Bitterlue, especially since Katsa and Po are going to be in it.

A lot of people had issues with Katso and Po not getting married. I think it was right for them, though...

It bugged me, not gonna lie. Katsa made it sound like she and Po were together... for now. The true romantic in me balked! My number one issue with the book. I like foreverness.

message 6: by Julie (new)

Julie Reece You should, it really is very good!

message 7: by Jody (new)

Jody I keep on going to read it, but for some reason never get there. Im probably missing out.

message 8: by Julie (new)

Julie Reece There's so much to read it's hard to decide. You won't be sorry if you read this one, though. I promise, it's cool. If you like Katniss or Tris in Divergent, you'll like this.

message 9: by Jody (new)

Jody I really have wanted to read it. Im going to get to it within the next month, thats it, Ive moved it way up the list. I love fantasy.

message 10: by Jen (new)

Jen (geekybookgal) | 159 comments That's what I thought..a heroine with flaws and fears but who forges on knowing what has to be done. I'm glad to hear Katsa shows back up in the third book.Julie wrote: " If you like Katniss or Tris in Divergent, you'll like this."

message 11: by Becca (new)

Becca (beccahal) I love these books!! It took me a little bit to get into Graceling, but once I did, I was hooked. Fire was fantastic. Probably my favorite of the two. Bitterblue is on my must-buy list!

message 12: by Rebecca (new)

Rebecca | 453 comments I also thought the cover of Bitterblue was so pretty! The keys are interesting.

message 13: by Imani (new)

Imani | 13 comments I just finished Fire a few days ago and it was amazing; i liked it better than Graceling. I love this series and I can't wait for Bitterblue. I love the cover of it, but of course that may be because blue is my fave color but I digress~ ^^

message 14: by Haley (new)

Haley I thought I liked Fire more too, but then I reread Graceling and I just loved it. So I'm not sure I have a favorite. They are both so good! What an amazing author :D
I'm waiting so impatiently for Bitterblue! Less than two weeks, right?!

message 15: by Sannie (new)

Sannie Hald (sanniehald) I just got the books, looking forward to be reading them!

Jen (geekybookgal) | 159 comments Lemme know what you thought. I finished Fire a few days ago. Can't wait for May 1st and Bitterblue!Sannie wrote: "I just got the books, looking forward to be reading them!"

message 17: by Rebecca (new)

Rebecca | 453 comments Graceling was better than Fire, in my opinion.

message 18: by Jen (new)

Jen (geekybookgal) | 159 comments I thought so too, but only because Fire starts out being so..almost wimpy versus Katsa who is a strong kick butt woman. I liked the second half of Fire better than the first half.Rebecca wrote: "Graceling was better than Fire, in my opinion."

message 19: by Rebecca (new)

Rebecca | 453 comments Yeah, me too.

Misty (intoreadin) | 123 comments I read Graceling and loved it. I felt it was fresh and new and though it didn't end quite the way I would've liked it to I felt that was part of it's allure. I haven't read fire yet but it's for sure on my tbr list.

message 24: by Kasey (new)

Kasey | 284 comments I loved this series. Its one of my favorites I love that all of the main characters are women who don't have to be in a romance to be strong or worthwhile.

Emily | 59 comments I love this series, though Bitterblue was a teensy bit off, maybe its just me

message 29: by Cassandra (new)

Cassandra Webb | 4 comments I can recommend the audio book for this too, especially the full cast audio - loved it!!!

message 30: by Melissa (new)

Melissa I always know when I've found a great book because I want to read the next one in the set. I read tons of young adult books and even though I may enjoy a book, I rarely go on to read the entire series by an author. I knew at the end with this one that I would definitely read more.

If Katsa and Po had gotten married that would have been too Hollywood-ish for me. I think they have forever together, but it's just on different terms than some couples.

At first, I was disappointed that Katsa wasn't the main character in the books after Graceling. I've since decided that Cashore was smart for doing that though. She added more to the Graceling mythos with additional characters and I enjoyed that all her main characters had different strengths.

I thought Bitterblue was the weakest of the bunch. Or maybe it's just me being weak. :) It had darker themes which was tough for me to read at times.

message 31: by Rachel (new)

Rachel I finished the Graceling trilogy last night and have to say that Bitterblue (Graceling Realm, #3) by Kristin Cashore was my favorite. I loved Katsa for her independence, I loved Fire for her determination, and I loved Bitterblue for her absolute strength in the face of her father's horrors.

I agree that Bitterblue (the book) was the darkest, but I found myself relating to her character the most probably because she is human and also because she never gave up. I'd like to be like that myself, never giving up no matter what life throws at me, so I found her to be quite inspirational!

message 32: by Sarah (new)

Sarah (sarahlou29) I read the first book 'Graceling' last year and absolutely loved it. I thought that 'Fire' was pretty awesome too. I'm still waiting for 'Bitterblue' to show up in the library but hopefully this year I will finsih the series =]
