Did it make you bored and sleepy?

Don't get me wrong, I absolutely LOVE Stephen King's books but "Insomnia" made me want to fall asleep. Go figure!

I think what kept me interested was that it took place in Derry. I was hoping for some kind of hint about Pennywise, oh well.

I had a really hard time trying to get into - and then through - this book.

I love Stephen King, and I'm also an insomniac, so thought that would be a winning combination for this book (!) Unfortunately I just found it overlong and not very interesting to be honest.

I did like the fact that the main character is an old guy, because that is quite rare really, not many authors do that. But it just didn't grip me, which is a shame because I really wanted to be scared by this book!

Never mind, I can always dip into The Shining or Misery again...

I didn't care for it. This was the first King book I've read. I didn't want to read anything he turned into a movie so I started with Insomnia since I work nightshift. I struggled through the book a lot. The older characters as mains felt pretty cool but when King writes off a big supporting character, never to talk about him again, I just gave up. I'm trying not to give up on King though. I just picked up Dead Season since I hear his short stories are where the gold is.

Susan If I had to choose which King book to read first all over again, it would be The Talisman. Highly recommended.

totally had me snoring, was one of the most tedious books i've ever read gave it one star and that was begrudged, still say it was like wading through treacle (edit)

My fiance said I fell asleep with the book literally on my face two nights ago. I am struggling to finish this one.

Of course it made me sleepy. It took me several goes just to slog throught that first 100 page section. But man! Once it gets going it is fantastic. And its one of my favorites in the Dark Tower world

I loved it and mean to read it soon again, probably an audiobook listen. I loved the warehouse under the tree roots, and the very old man with the huge multicolored aura.

I am perpetually worried about what the old man says: "I rush through everything I do so I can do the next" --- which is NOT the Be Here Now philosophy more common to our day and I need to read the thing again and process this. King may quite simply --- have been wrong. He was younger then, of course.

As I recall, reading about someone with insomnia made me rather anxious, but it's been years since I read this one.

Not at all this was a good book

This was definitely a Stephen King book that let me down....

I loved this book. I was fascinated by the "doctors." Atropos scared the hell out of me. I loved Ralph and Lois. I loved the mention of Roland Deschain. This was the first King I had read in several years and it drew me back to his flock.

This was actually one of my favorites!! I couldn't put it down!! I have actually read it a couple of times.

I totally enjoyed Insomnia. The old man is definately someone you want to root for. It also kept me guessing throughout the book.It held my attention.

I read all of it (once I start I can't stop reading a book halfway through) and it's a good book, but I just found it too long...perhaps if it was half the size I would have enjoyed it a lot more!

I just thought it was generally bonkers, but still whizzed through it effortlessly enough.

I liked the story itself but I had to struggle finishing it. Needed like 1 1/2 months to read that book -.-'

I read it once and don't intend to ever pick it up again.

I found Insomnia to be the most interesting and exciting book I have ever read to be honest --- It was very exciting for me, and I felt a very real sort of connection with Ralph Roberts and some of the other characters.

I wish that Ralph could be in other books of King's, I know that he has a minor role as a character in his novel Bag of Bones, but besides that I haven't found Ralph Roberts anywhere else..

I loved the history of Insomnia, the three docs being who they are in mythology, and all of the Dark Tower references, although I read Insomnia before reading any Dark Tower novels, it made me interested in reading those books, and I've just started on The Gunslinger, I have Insomnia to thank for that.

It was an incredible read, and so far my all time favourite book - I plan on holding onto my copy forever!

"Insomnia" freaked me out a little bit-- it made me feel kind of like I had insomnia, because when I did read it, I would read well into the night, and have trouble falling asleep afterwards due to thinking about weird little guys with sharp instruments. But it was a very good book, in the end. Less so much horror as sci-fi or fantasy, than most of King's works, though, I thought.

I loved it and didn't find it boring.

This is one of my favorite King novels. I loved the older characters.

I liked the integration of the Dark Tower Series into it, but I have to agree: the book was just not very interesting. Definately didn't keep me up at night.

I read this book years ago when I suffered from insomnia. It would have been great if the book had put me to sleep, because insomnia is a pain in the arse. Happily, the book helped me make it through sleepless nights without contributing to the problem. Along with The Stand, it is one of my King favorites.

i enjoyed it, but aside from Lisey's Story i've read most everything King has written. (I tried Liseys but man it was dull).

Insomnia, at the time, made me happy as i read it (when it came out) after The Wastelands. Wastelands had a huge cliff hanger and Insomnia references the gunslinger in later pages so i did feel that king hadn't forgotten the gunslinger. these days, with all the books out there is less of a finding the storyline piece by piece feel and the cliff hanger at the end of Wasteland has been resolved

Matt I've always kind of liked From A Buick 8. It's so weird and surreal ...more

I agree that it was sort of slow at first and it too a good 100 pages to start getting interested in it, but it turned out to be a really good book. The one thing that did catch my eye at the beginning that gave me enoguh interest to plow through those first hundred pages was that the main character is 70-some years old, something that seems to be rare in novels.
