Here is the Summer Challenge(June-August 2012):
Books used for other challenges are fine, as long as you finish them during the summer months. Rereads are also acceptable.

The rules are simple - to complete the challenge you must read at least one book from each of three of the following categories. You may read more than three books, but they must be from at least three different categories.

1] A book that takes place somewhere you wish to visit. This can include fictional places like Narnia or Middle Earth.
2] A summer romance. This is a fairly loose category, just be able to justify it.
3] A vacation mystery. A mystery that takes place during a vacation, at a beech, during the summer, or something similar.
4] A book that takes place at or near a beach.
5] A book that takes place at sea.
6] A book involving mermaids or other mythical water creatures. This is another fairly loose category.
7] Nonfiction. Somehow relate this to summer, vacation, water...be able to justify your choice.
***] Reader's choice. Just stick to the vacation/summer theme. I'm sure I haven't thought of every option. :o)

Please post your progress(and any questions you might have) in this discussion.

**Small Addendum**
Any one who wishes to can begin this challenge in May. However, if you choose to do so, then you must read at least one book from each of four categories in order to complete the challenge.

:) I got the idea from another group I'm in (Into the Forest). It has a 12 month long fairy tale challenge that is similar. You have to read one book from each of 12 categories. This is a shorter version. It seemed fun. :)

My Progress:
I read Awake at Dawn Awake at Dawn (Shadow Falls, #2) by C.C. Hunter , which takes place at a summer camp. I'm calling it reader's choice category.

I read Born in Icewhich takes place in Ireland a place that I have always wanted to visit.

I also really liked the book.

And I also read Sailfor a vacation mystery. It is classified as a mystery but it wasn't very mysterious since about 1/4 of the way through you actually start seeing things from the bad guys prospective. I'm not usually a fan of James Patterson but I did enjoy this book even though it was a bit predictable.

my summer romance book is Along for the Ride by Sarah Dessen I just finished it. It would have made a good beach book or other lazy day read.

My second book is The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants (The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants, #1) by Ann Brashares

Oh my goodness, it made me want to visit Greece. Part of it took place on this little island, and it sounds so beautiful. :)

I keep looking at The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants at the library, was it good?

message 15: by [deleted user] (new)

I enjoyed it. At first some of the characters seemed a little underdeveloped, like they all have one characteristic that dominates their personality, but the characters continued to develop as the book went on. I think it was probably intentional. I definitely plan to read the sequels.
