Mitchell (mbjorgensen) | 29 comments I know this may have fit under one of the other topics but I wanted to really get some input on this. What do you think?

There are rumors about what J.K. Rowling is doing next? These include an Encyclopedia/Yearbook of the characters and creatures from the books. There was also a rumor about Tales of Beedle the Bard which turned out to be true.

What I am wondering is if she can actually do another series? Can she pull it off? Whatever she does next will be compared to Harry Potter and she will be expected to pull off another phenomenon. She will have to top herself. For a person who single-handedly started young people reading again that is a tall order.

Should she return to the world of Harry Potter or go somewhere else entirely? Who should she write about next if she stay's in the wizarding world?

Well, I have asked my questions, but now I want to voice my opinion. One story I would desperately love to hear would be the story of the founding of Hogwart's. Not as a history but as a story itself. What brought the founders together, and how did they finally split apart. What happened to Salazar Slytherin? How did he create the the Chamber of Secrets. How did Godric Gryffindor get his sword and for what purpose?

I really do hope J.K. Rowling does write the Encyclopedia. Personally, I will read anything she writes.

I would love more books about the Potter universe. I'm not sure if she could write another large series continuing the story, but she could write other small books, such as Tales of Beedle the Bard, that provide information about the wizrding world. It seems to me Harry's story is finished. I don't know if the adventuress of his children would be comparable to the original books if they were ever written. I would rather that J.K. Rowling write about the past. I agree with you Mitchell, on the story of the founding of Hogwarts. It would be very interesting to read. I know Dumbledore's backstory was told in the Deathly Hallows, but I'd still like more on his life when he was younger. Maybe the lives of the Marauders, Lily, and Snape would make a good story, even though we know a some about them already. I loved reading about them in the other books. I also enjoyed reading the 800 word prequel about James and Sirius. There are many possibilities in the wizarding world and beyond, so I hope to see more books by J.K. Rowling in the future.

Emma | 34 comments I'd love to see what happens with Harry's kids. Would they be friends with Malfoy's sons? Who are the other professers. I also agree with both of you that would be interesting to read about the maurauder's lifes at Hogwarts. I'm not so interested in the past as much though.

What 800 word prequel are you referring too? Where do I get it?

J.K. hand-wrote the prequel that was auctioned off, with the proceeds going to charities. (I think it was for English PEN and Dyslexia Action.) You can read it online.

This is one place to read it, but I'm sure there are more: http://www.geocities.com/elvendork@ym...
The second page is just fanfic.

Aneri | 186 comments i really would like her to write "The Life and Lies of Albus Dumbledore" i know that i already say it in the deathly hallows but it would be really good if i could actually read it, it would help me understand more clearly of dumbledores life

Thanks Pandy. Interesting prequel. Elvendork though???

message 8: by Amira (new)

Amira (liightningbolt) | 18 comments I love that prequel. The premise of writing about the founding of Hogwarts would, I'm sure be enthralling. Personally, I'd prefer a deeper insight into the Weasley and Malfoy families. Why do they hate each other so much? Is there a deeper, hidden story here? So much could be done with that story-line.

Pandy | 1575 comments Mod
No problem Mitchell.

I agree Amira. I'm not sure if there is a deeper reason for the Weasleys' and Malfoys' hatred, but I would love to learn more about their histories, especially the Malfoys. I liked the little letter from Malfoy to Dumbledore in The Tales of Beedle the Bard. It was interesting to see where Lucius's hatred of Dumbledore started.

message 10: by Novin (new)

Novin I'd like to read everything you guys mentioned, and I'd also like to read about the time harry's parents went to hogwarts, as a story. It'd be fun, because at that time many interesting things happened, and voldemort was alive then. but harry's children's story wouldn't be that much fun, cuz everything is finished. And I'd love to read about after that, I mean after they finished school, and the order, and everything...there is so much we don't know about the past, and I think it is time for all our questions to be answered, as the series has finished.

message 11: by Kimberly (new)

Kimberly (kamrie) | 23 comments I would love to read all of the above, yet I would really enjoy most learning about Harry's kids and also about his parents and sirius black and ther begin of the Order

message 12: by Amira (last edited Jan 01, 2009 10:02AM) (new)

Amira (liightningbolt) | 18 comments I think the story of the beginning of the Order would make an excellent short novella, Kimberly.

Pandy, yes, maybe my inner 'fanfiction' came across there but still, the older more knowledgeable families in the Harry Potter world would be very interesting to read about.

Rachel (rachel-g) just in case none of you have heard of it, I just got The Tales of Beetle and Bard, which is told through Hermione and I think it's the 7th book.
and that would be so cool if she wrote something in Voldemort's pov! haha

I don't know if it was Rita Skeeter's version how much would we really know?

message 20: by Mitchell (new)

Mitchell (mbjorgensen) | 29 comments I have been reading and posting in the discussion about Snape and was thinking it might be interesting to read his point of view for the series. I still don't fully understand Snape's motivations.

I'm not sure if I like the idea of a story from Voldemort's point of view. I agree with Mitchell about the Life and Lies of Albus Dumbledore. I would love to know more about Dumbledore, and Rita's books would have some facts, but a large portion of it would be exaggerations or lies. A book from Snape's point of view would be very interesting. I always love trying to guess what he is thinking in the books.

message 22: by Emma (new)

Emma | 34 comments I like the idea from doing it from Snape's point of view. I don't like the idea from Voldermorts point of view.I really want to see more about the future.

message 23: by Elizabeth (new)

Elizabeth ARE YOU KIDDING I would LOOOOOVE a story through Voldemort's point of view!!!!!! It would be sooooooooo cool, even better then those snippets we catch in order of the phoenix and deathly hallows!!!!!! I'm sorry I have a thing for evil characters (although I would never consider imitating them, don't worry), and Voldemort is like the BESST villain I've ever read. I would REALLY enjoy a voldemort book.

anyway, I would like a snape one too. He's a perplexing ani-hero and I would looove to see how his mind works.

aaand for the life and lies of albus dumbledore, hey sure, why not??

but the thing is, I wouldn't like a whole actual book with any of these (cept maybe the dumbledore) cause I think she's done with full length books from that universe, and these would be really good as like short stories, like in Beedle. I REALLY am looking forward to the encyclopedia, cause it is confirmed she is doing it, its coming out like 2012, 2011-ish I think.

message 24: by jeeves... (new)

jeeves... | 100 comments *spoilers*
a voldemort book would be cool, but a snape book would be awesome!!!!
he's my favorite character (after sirius died) and i'd love to see his thoughts on everything... like, what was he thinking when he was dying in deathly hallows?? and seeing more of his time at school would be cool too... all the time he was pretending to be a death eater... like "snape's life story" would be awesome...

I agree. I really enjoy reading about anti-heros, people with questionable loyalties, or villains who, by the end of a book or series, become a little less villainous - complex characters in other words. That's why I'd love anything from Snape's point of view. I don't really like reading about the main evil characters as much. It's not that I don't like them as characters, because every story needs a good villain, but I feel as if I know most of what I want to know about Voldemort. I've never been fascinated by what his exact thoughts might be. I think his motives are quite clear.

message 26: by Elizabeth (new)

Elizabeth I agree about the anti-hero stuff, but I generally consider villains to be much, much more fascinating than the heroes (has anyone read the great tree of avalon books? its a prime example of a stupid hero but an awesome evil guy) simply because they are so bad, yet somehow they manage to live with what they are and somehow rationalize it. That fascinates me - how a person could be that way yet still think that they are doing the right thing. Maybe I'm freaking you out by being so dark, but that's the way I sort of view villains. They are more gripping to me. I would really like a voldemort book/short story because it would be his point of view, his thoughts, his rationalizing. I mean, how can someone so evil and horrible and vindictive make themselves think, "this is right, this is good"?

message 27: by Amira (new)

Amira (liightningbolt) | 18 comments I don't know about the book from Voldemort's PoV. It feels like we've already been down that road... Although, Snape's little life story would amazing!

message 28: by Elizabeth (new)

Elizabeth one thing I would like cleared up, either in another book or something else, is exactly how lily and james and neville's parents defied voldemort three times. In the prophecy it said that the chosen one's parents would defy voldemort three times, so both neville's and harry's parents did that. I think a lily or james narrative would be great to show that stuff.

That would definitely make for a good book!

I'd love it if she was to write pre-quels to the story. Like that little tidbit with James & Sirius on the motorcycle. I loved that and wanted it to keep going. I hope she does the encyclopedia too.

I just hope that she doesn't give up writing. Harry Potter made her one wealthy woman. I hope she still has a love for writing and does find something new to write.

message 30: by Aneri (new)

Aneri | 186 comments oh, i'm trying to make my own pre-quel to the book! i'll post it up on my profile when i'm done
unfortunatley i have writer's block so i haven't been writing for about a week now! (or i'm just lazy)

thats a good idea!!

message 32: by Emma (new)

Emma | 34 comments I really want to read the encyclopedia badly!!!!! I heard she said in 10 years if she feels like writing more Harry Potter there might be an eighth book...

message 33: by Elizabeth (new)

Elizabeth I don't think I'd like that idea. I mean, I seriously love/adore harry potter, but I think she finished the series really well. She shouldn't, I think, write any more full length books cause even to me, a diehard fan, that would seem like stretching it a bit. Now, a collection of short stories/narratives and/or the encyclopedia, that would be awesome.

message 34: by Roselyn (new)

Roselyn (roselynlee) | 70 comments But, if Voldemort is already dead, the stories wouldn't make sense. That is because the stories were basically about VoldyVoldyVoldemort vs. Harry Pawtter :D I LOVE WRONG SPELLING

J.K. Rowling also said that whatever she writes will be compared with Harry Potter and she's okay with that.

message 38: by Melyssa (new)

Melyssa | 48 comments I think at first it would be hard not to compare whatever she writes to Harry Potter.

message 39: by Gunjari (last edited Feb 05, 2009 10:10PM) (new)

Gunjari (irajnug) | 732 comments i know. i mean, it's a series that captured the whole world...

you know what would be really cool??? if jo decided to go undercover and wrote a book under a pen name so that it wouldn't be judged against hp. then, after waiting a while, she would reveal herself... omg that would be so exciting!

message 40: by Lauren (new)

Lauren (djinni) That would be cool.

I think she could do what Tolkien did, and create more books with the same location, in different times and places.

message 41: by Rachael (new)

Rachael | 1 comments personally, i would love to hear the stories through voldemorts point of view. what he was thinking all those times. where he was when we had no idea.
i also have to agree, i would love to read the stories about the founding of hogwarts.
she once hinted that neville longbottom may have been the chosen one. maybe she could touch on that?
maybe what happend to the malfoy family after everything. or what draco malfoy wanted, or what he was plotting throughout the stories. we know he wants to be a good person but he can't do that because of his parents.
or maybe little things that may have been mentioned in the books, she could create whole new stories about those.
i think that there are so many things that we would all enjoy reading.
i have to agree that it would be very hard to top harry potter. but there are so many more things that she could write about in the harry potter world.
