astonished by Sacred Time and the Search for Meaning by Gary Eberle

and absolutely flumoxed and delighted with Simulations by Jean Baudrillard

Ice Bear (neilar) | 838 comments I like 'light' multi historical period novels like Sarum: The Novel of England, North and South and Kane and Abel, currently reading Fall of Giants that is heading the same way.

than you will most likely love Noah Gordon
tho I cried a lot throughout
the historical period is one I knew little about, other than Gone with the Wind, but more focused on the native genocide

started songspinners, a fantasy on universal themes

Ellen (elliearcher) | 1373 comments Although I continue with Recognitions, I paused and did a quick read of James Thompson's Helsinki White Helsinki White (Inspector Kari Vaara, #3) by James Thompson , which I loved despite its brutality. So very well-written. And I'm deeply invested in this series and the characters.

Magdelanye | 2847 comments Merde! I left my book on set and we got wrapped before I could retreive it Songspinners

Struggling with Simulations: anybody read it? Slow going with all the necessary rereadings.

Almost finished Sacred Time and the Search for Meaningand resisting the temptation to gallop through these last pages.

Started Songdogs byColum McCann. Especially for a first novel, its wonderful.

Ellie, arent you finished with the recognitions?

Jim Reading Gravity's Rainbow and Helen in Egypt. H.I.E is an interesting idea; what if Stesichorus and Herodotus were right? What if Helen and Paris stopped in Egypt and only Paris continued on to Troy? What if the Achaeans spent 10 years besieging the city for a phantom?

Ellen (elliearcher) | 1373 comments Yes, I finished The Recognitions by William Gaddis ! I loved it, even though it's already crying out for a second reading.

My computer crashed so I'm trying to use my new IPad from work but change is hard. :(

I am now reading a bunch of stuff-most notably Gravity's Rainbow by Thomas Pynchon along with A Gravity's Rainbow Companion Sources and Contexts for Pynchon's Novel by Steven Weisenburger and Pictures Showing What Happens on Each Page of Thomas Pynchon's Novel Gravity's Rainbow by Zak Smith , as well as back to The Instructions by Adam Levin which I missed. I am also reading The Worst Thing by Aaron J. Elkins , The Winter of Our Disconnect by Susan Maushart (in which I am taking a personal interest!), and a very interesting (also non-fiction) work, The Lonely Patient How We Experience Illness by Michael Stein ?

Oh yeah, and for work: What Every Teacher Should Know about Instructional Planning by Donna E. Walker Tileston
