On the Island
question
Maldives is the wrong location

Having been to the Maldives twice I think it's the wrong location for a castaway story. The author clearly hasn't been to the Maldives and has just done online research. It's a major tourist destination, and the chances of being marooned for months on an island after a seaplane crash seems pretty implausible. And seaplanes don't usually have just one pilot, though I guess this could be taken as artistic license.
Also, the author not having been to the Maldives shows in the writing style. She mentions some pointless details (the seaplane being a Twin Otter DHC-6) but then gives no real sense of what it's like to fly in one and what the Maldives are like seen from the air.
The south pacific would have been a more plausible choice of location for a castaway story.

LOL. The entire book was unrealistic. It doesn't surprise me that the location was also wrong. How about those toiletries lasting almost 4 years or the fact that T.J. didn't die of dengue hemorrhagic.
I am with Karen. I don't care about realistic. I don't read fiction so I can learn facts and have a completely boring reading experience. I read them so they can take me away to a fantasy place.
I loved the book.

Plausible or not, I loved the story... =)
While knowing about Maldives only from wiki pages, I imagine since it's comprised of several hundred little islands, it is easy to be stranded on one that not inhabited. What seemed a bit unexplained and belief suspending was that his parents would choose it to spend the summer, it's REAL far away. Regardless, I loved this book and everything that happened. Made me want to try breadfruit--if I ever see it.
I agree with you I'm a scubadiver and very fond of Maldives, I have been 4 time, one in a scubadiving cruiser, and I know that it's really impossible that the tourist cruiser boat and local people don't find you in a small time, and sharks don't hunt in the same place for a long time, they move along reefs and in deep waters and generally there are a lot of fish in Maldives to eat they aren't aggresive, they prefer tunas than humans!!!very different in caribbean waters.
P.S sorry for my mistakes I'm not very fluent!

First of all, a lot of authors have never been to the places that are the settings of their novels. A lot of them do research online or by word of mouth. At least, this is what I've heard from different authors at book signings. It was fiction and I loved the book.
Ohh, and if I was going to be deserted on an island I would hope it would be in the Maldives. She probably chose that location because it is so beautiful and maybe dreams of going there, just like I do.

I doubt the average person has been t Maldives, so I don't think it matters. I think the story was moving, realistic, well-written, and the reader isn't looking for "correctness" of all things in a fiction book.
Rated it 5 stars because it's an amazing story line of true selfless love.

I didn't find fault with the location or the license in their not being found (view spoiler) .
The only glitch that made me cringe a little was the fact they were eating tacos and chips as far into malnutrition as they were (nails breaking, dizziness, losing hair, etc.) Their systems never would have handled real food that easily, not to mention anything spicy.
