Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire -> Breaking Dawn -> City of Glass -> Hunger Games -> A Storm of Swords!!
I don't think any book is going to dethrone ASOIAF in the near future..
But, that is what I like to pretend after each book..So, keeping my fingers crossed that I love Divergent (which is what I'm planning to take up next)

best standalone books are the book thief :) and the help. both are historical fiction and both are incredibly beautiful :)
i just read the hobbit, and that definitely goes somewhere up there too
best series; when i was little, i loved 'the magic faraway tree' and 'the adventures of the wishing chair', and i still do. i also love the dragonkeeper series and maximum ride.
now, Harry Potter, or course, is one of the best- i think Rowling does write quite well, and her storyline is of course brilliant, but she also characterises everyone very well, to make them seem lifelike(:
just recently i discovered the Obernewtyn series and i love them to DEATH!
the hunger games of course is a quick, anticipating read.
next up i have LOTR and ASOIAF to read, so hopefully they'll be up there aswell:) i'm also reading Narnia again :)

Another addition:
Where the Red Fern Grows
Holes
Silverwing series [+Darkwing]

Really? That’s awesome! I’ll get it on my kindle. I loved the Silverwing series.

You mean Darkwing? That isn’t a part of the Silverwing trilogy, but it’s sort of like, “Hey, readers, you liked the bat thing, here’s something you might enjoy ^.^”
It was a really good book, and it was a lot longer than the originals. Really great.
you HAVE TO try the hobbit! i just finished it a few weeks ago and it was amazing!!!
oh my gosh. we are so alike XD
divergent is somewhere next on my list, because i hear it's really good, and the book thief is my FAVOURITE book EVER!!! :)
but i don't like the mortal instruments. ah, this is where we differ :(

She hates that kind of stuff...
I'm half way through City of Glass, but I got bored, should I keep going?
I'm half way through City of Glass, but I got bored, should I keep going?

it's just annoying for me because i like to put all my focus into the one book...and if i'm reading a great book at the same time, like rach said, you'd probably get bored of the other and never end up finishing it...but i guess if they're completely different genres it's good- you can sort of just decide what genre you read from. but generally i like to read just the one book at a time.

* JRR Tolkien's the lord of the rings (as if you could match it?!)
* JK Rowling's harry potter series
*Ken Follet's outstanding novel 'the pillars of the earth'

It is an adult (*adult themed*) historical novel, set within twelfth-century England when civil war, famine, religious strife and battles over Royal sucsession tore lives and families apart. The Pillars of the Earth basically tells the story of the building of a magnificent cathedral...but it is so not boring!
Filled with intregue and treachury the characters in this book are so facintaing, and everyone surrounds this building that effects thier lives. From humble stonemasen to imperious monarchs, the dreams, love and labours of these people is so engrossing i cannot tell you how i lost myself within this book.
I am not the type of reader to normally pick something like this off the shelf, as it is quite explicit and real. Sat reading non-stop for a month i could not put this book down, and never have i been so engrossed within a book like this one except for Harry Potter! If you are older and enjoy reading about the past that is so authentic and real, then this is a MUST READ...AMAZING!!!

Yes, it suprised me so much as i would never in a million years have thought that i would have liked it at all. There is a reason why it is one of Britains top reads!
Wow, it sounds really good. I adore historical fiction, so this definitely sounds like something I'd read. Thanks! :)

I would have a read and see if you like it or not, perhaps borrow from a libary or read online?? x

*not in order!*

>Percy Jackson!!!
>Ranger's Apprentice!!!!!!!
>Jack Blank!
>Magic Thief

2nd place for me would be, The Magician's Apprentice by Trudi Canavan. This one us up for debate, a many would disagree in saying it wasn't one of her bests. But I love it all the same.
3rd is Harry Potter, not so much for JK's writing style, bur more her ability to make a world and story that has captured the hearts of millions <3
