Joe Abercrombie Fans discussion
Welcome thread

I'd heard loads of good stuff about the first law trilogy from friends but never read it.
I finally decided a cheapskate way to read it was to give my brother the books as a birthday present last year (bought blade itself and before they're hanged BOGOF) and borrow them off him when he finished.
He enjoyed the books so much that he didn't even mind that his was obviously my plan.
Read the first law series back to back in about 10 days - also loved best served cold. Still waiting for some free time from reading other stuff to start The Heroes

Looking forward to some good discussions. Don't know if we should start a new topic, but I'm looking for some recommendations. I also really enjoy Peter Brett, GRRM (of course) and I just started Erikson's Gardens of the Moon. Not really into it yet - he's no Joe!
Bring on Red Country!
Welcome Jamie and Nick!
@Nick: I like your idea of the recommendations discussion - I have just created a new thread just for that purpose:

I was looking for a new book series to get stuck into and I randomly picked up "the Blade itself" just because of the cool cover (the UK cover that is) and I loved it! the flawed, realistic characters, the gritty world, the attention to detail and the story that always left you wondering what crazy thing would happen next!
@James: welcome to the group. If you in fact randomly selected Joe Abercrombie then I'd say you are a lucky person and you should try to play some kind of lottery :-)

ive read the first law trilogy,BSC and the heroes and im gonna start on the red country one this weekend, completly in love with this story and universe, theres no pink princesses and shinning knights, this is how fantasy should be,my favourite chapter is the Seventh day in LAOK and the part where monza and shivers are having sex in BSC..dont want to spiol t tho ^^

Say something about Goodreads, say it needed a Joe Abercrombie fan club! Well done mate! :)
Oh yes, I'm Jerome and very happy to be here!
Hi everyone, I am a new addition to the fan club of Joe Abercrombie. What an author by the way.
Just finished Red Country a couple weeks ago, am actually reading through the First Law for a second time at the moment.
I've got an idea brewing for a new thread and will post soon.
Joe better bring another book out soon as well, or it'll be back to the mud with me!

Hi Matthew, welcome to the group.
Joe better bring another book out soon as well, or it'll be back to the mud with me!
I read somewhere (Joe's blog?) that he plans to take a break and then start on a new trilogy.

Do you have the link? Sounds good.

I can't find it now... maybe it's something I heard in Joe's interview here:

Or maybe something I read in his Reddit Ask Me Anything interview:

The whole series would have One Trilogy (TFL), then three stand-alones (which we now know as BSC, The Heroes and Red Country) and then a last trilogy. I suspect the new trilogy is going back to the main characters of the first series, mainly Glokta, Ferro and Logan/Lamb. And I suspect some Shivers, Calder, Jezal and Dogman for good measure.

Since my favorites are Logen Ninefingers, Ferro, Glokta and others mentioned, I am thrilled.

Felix from Amsterdam,the Netherlands.
Love Abercromie. I read a lot of books in general and fantasy specificially.
After all of george Martins books in need something else to quench my thrist.
I delved into the wonderous universe of the Malazan empire before i arrived at the shaping of the new age of the union but i honestly had to admit that i devoured all the books with gusto afterwards.
My favorite characters is Ninefingers and Glokta (perhaps naturally).
I really appreciate the stand alone novels as well. I think the Heroes was my favorite out of the three though i really appreciated the effort made with Red country as well (best served cold was pretty good as well).
I love the fact that Joe is able to play with different genres and seems to take a lot away from movie types as well.
Though i really do hope we get another big trilogy with a Union vs Gurkish war.Hoping that is what he announced. I really am partial to a reunion between Ninefingers (aka Lamb)and Ferro.

His books saved me from the bleak emptiness while waiting for The Winds of Winter. Can't wait for July's release of Half A King.

is a pleasure to belong to a group of lovers of the works of Joe Abercrombie. Although now this author is included among the elite of fantasy, it is difficult to find groups like this. So I invite you to visit the group that I created on Facebook where we share that love for the works of Abercrombie.
Well, expect them to share some talks, debates or concerns about this great work.

Perfect timing, Amanda. You can read all his books and series without having to wait a long time. He is about to release the last novel of his last trilogy next week.
The Blade Itself is great, but the next two books and two stand alones are even better.

I don't see any specific rules on introduction, so I'll just say that I'm a fan of anti-heroes, gray characters and goats. Not necessarily in that order. And I always sign my posts!

OK, let me start with introductions. My name is Paweł, I fell in love with Joe's writing last year when I devoured The First Law trilogy. I liked it so much that I decided to savor the experience of reading the other two books. This year I went back to Joe and read Best Served Cold, I loved it as well. Yesterday I have started The Heroes and, as expected, am enjoying it thoroughly.
In Joe's books I like the realism, down-to-earth attitude of characters. I like that the stories are not overloaded with magic. And above all, I like the endings, especially The First Law had me impressed at the end when everything (and everyone) turned out not what it looked like at first.
Welcome one and all, introduce yourself (or not, if you don't want to) and feel at home.
