Michael (michaeljsullivan) | 70 comments I'm generally known for writing fantasy (best known for The Riyria Revelations), but I recently wrote a short Story: Greener Grass (5,600 words). Here's a bit about the book:

HE WANTED TO ESCAPE HIS PROBLEMS. HE WANTED TO SEE THE FUTURE.
HE NEVER CONSIDERED WHAT THE FUTURE WANTED.

Confronted with suffering a painful death from cancer, Dan Sturges, a retired Ford’s engineer, foregoes treatments to try an idea of his own. After reading a theoretical article in Scientific American on time displacement, Dan builds a time machine in his garage. With nothing to lose but a few months of pain, Dan pins his hopes on a future where cancer might have been cured, or at least a quicker death by electrocution. How could he have known that what happens after he presses the button is more shocking than the eighteen car batteries he connected himself to?

Greener Grass is just $1.57 and can be bought at: Amazon or Barnes and Noble , but to be honest, I don't care about the money (Riyria pays the bills) so I'll send a free copy to anyone who is interested in reading it. Just email me at michael.sullivan.dc@gmail.com and let me know the file format you would prefer, or send me a message with your email here on goodreads.

Please consider leaving the short to your shelves Greener Grass. Also, as this is a "new style" for me please answer this one question poll.

Thanks for telling us about your new short story, Michael. I like the synopsis so I just purchased it on the Kindle for £1 (UK). Would have been nice if was part of a short story collection, in fact this is the first time I see a short story sold as a stand alone!

I read your bio too, its a sweet success story you have there and I especially thought you rekindling your writing for just your daughter touching.

I'll start reading your short story and post up my thoughts...and welcome to the group!

Michael (michaeljsullivan) | 70 comments Thanks Tej - I'm interested in what you think. I actually have 2 short stories on Amazon. (So not enough yet for a collection - but I would like to do that someday). The other is a "freebie" but it's not science fiction. I'm going to provide you links in case you want to read it:

Michael, I read your Greener Grass short. It was excellent. I like your narrative and you certainly induce a lot of thought provocation over what constitutes idealistic societies. Loved the rather novel method of time travel too.

I also answered your 1 question poll and left feedback that you requested.

And I favour you writing a novel based on the concepts you established in your short :)

I have writen a review on goodreads.

I am a big fan of Michael J Sullivan. He is known for his Riyria fantasy series...but Greener Grass by Michael J. Sullivan Greener Grass is a short story involving time travel. Michael also expanded the ideas in Greener Grass into a full novel. It is called Hollow World by Michael J. Sullivan Hollow World. It was a group read not long ago.

Here is my review of Greener Grass
