Lush Library discussion

Have you read it, or are you going to read along? It's a classic - come on you know you want to;)

I'll be reading along. It's next on my list, after . I'm looking forward to it!

I'm on about page 40. I'm liking it, but it has to have my total hard concentration, or I lose a bit and have to go and read the page again. The most confusing thing is the character names, they're all the same (almost). Also time isn't necessarily in chronological order ... A lot of people have said it's their favourite book and one of the most ambitious novels ever written. So it must be worth it :) Apparently it's full of symbolism too ... so lots to look out for and concentrate on! I'm a bit tired now, so will pick it up again tomorrow, when I can pay more attention.

Hope to read this one in the next couple of weeks and then move on to Gillespie and I.

I have read and he has his own style. I think it's funny how he keeps repeating the main characters name in full. I only got confused with the names when other people started to be named the same and there seemed to be so many A.... males. I love the magical aspect of the gypsies. I wanted to get to 20% but when I got there I found it really difficult to put down.

I've only read the first chapter so far but I'm in love with it already. I don't want to go to work today, I want to stay home and read! :-(

Ok I'm gonna start this today, no excuse as I have it on my kindle now :)

This is really easy to read... it's quite strange and funny and I can't put my finger on what I mean. Love it so far 4%

I am quite enjoying 100YofS now, it's getting a little less confusing with the names as I'm getting to know the characters more. I'm 80 odd pages in ... hope to read a bit more before I get to bed.

I finished it last night. Wow, I totally loved it! In fact, I think it might actually be my new favourite book ever. Thanks so much for making me read it - I would never have picked it up if you hadn't all voted for it.

I'm about half way through - does the war last much longer?

No, not really, though it drifts along in fits and starts for a while after having essentially finished.

I started yesterday. I'm having a bit of trouble remembering which male character is which, but that's a minor quibble. Really enjoying it so far!

It gets easier Sarah, I think it's good how he keeps repeating them as it helps you keep them apart :) I'm finding it's like watching a soap it's interesting enough to keep me watching but I don't know if it will be the best book I've ever read....

No, I've never read any of his books, but I really want to read them all now!

Oh dear I'm on 66% and now I'm getting a bit meh about it all. Can't really see where it's going I'm feeling a little disheartened, it picks up again right?

I'm 56% of the way through and finding it a bit of a chore at times. Feel so tempted to start another of my books, but if I do that I might take ages to finish this one. I wish I knew more about Columbian history as a lot of what happens in 100yos is supposed to be metaphoric to what went on politically. Maybe I should have bought the notes ...

Still I don't want to be negative, it's poetically written in places and I do love the characters but the female ones seem to be far more interesting.

Don't put it down - I'm an idiot because now I'm finding it difficult to pick up again :(

Oh dear, what a shame you're not enjoying it :-( I loved it, but maybe it's one of those you just have to be in the right mood for. I had a look at its wikipedia entry after I finished and the bits of Columbian history are really interesting, but if you look before you've finished the book you'll see spoilers.

I do like how the story will just be plodding along normally and maybe a little boringly and then the narrator says something COMPLETELY random and outrageous and it grabs your attention quite forcefully and you think "What on earth ...??!!"

I've read a few reviews where it's been said that reading 100yofs is like being stoned :)

I have about 60 pages to go. I'm enjoying it more now that I've read a bit about the background history. Ooh and I just found a link that I wished I'd seen before

Lots of info and it summarises each part of the book too and throws up all kinds of questions. It's getting late now, but I'll have a good read tomorrow.

I loved that about it. It's what kept me reading.

On the whole, I found it extremely hard going. I got some more temporary work a couple of weeks ago, and that became my excuse for not reading it. It's taken me most of the month, but I finally finished it yesterday. I'm not really sure how I feel about it -- part of me loved it, and part of me feels like I just didn't get it at all. I don't think it'll ever be one of my favourite books, but I loved the style. It was worth reading just for that!
