Good idea, Lu!
I am always up for a read along or buddy read. The only problem is that I have to buy the book and that can take some time, which is why I hardly ever read the BoM. I read those only if I already have the book. But on the positive side I can stick to a reading schedule and I have always something to say about a book :)
I am also up for almost any kind of book. Although I do like a book to have some volume so there is something to discuss :)
Upcoming planned buddy reads that people might want to join in are Contact by Carl Sagan, Duma Key by Stephen King, Cry to Heaven by Anne Rice and The Club Dumas by Arturo Perez Reverte. These are all books that can be read for the Deserted island challenge and buddy reads that Lauren S and I have planned. We haven't yet decided in which order we are going to read them. Also when is subject to Lauren S reading schedule since she does a lot of reviews and she has to fit them in. We have also talked about reading kraken by China Mieville. If anyone is interested in reading those we can always see if we can change the order in which we want to read them.

At the end of each discussion we usually decide what our next read will be, but I'll announce it here as well to give anyone who's interested a chance to get a copy of the book.

Yep :) Just post any thoughts you have as you go along.
As a courtesy, it's a good idea to say where you are in the book, so that other readers don't accidentally read spoilers. And you can use spoiler tags for major reveals.

I also have a copy, I'd be willing to read with you?

That would be great, Lu. I should be receiving my book in the week - will let you know. I am excited to be part of my first read along :) I am hoping that this will help me with my reviews too. I am trying to improve my (too) informal style.

I think the 1st-2nd would be best :) As long as we finish it on the 9th, I have a excavation I'm going on, on the 10th.
Would that be ok?

Thank you Lu :)

Might join you,but the earliest I can start is 2nd week in August

That would be fine. A bit later In August would probably be even better for me, even September.

I'll join this one. I have the book and it's on my TBR shelf, even though I am not sure why as it is not my usual type of choice. Maybe I will learn to like this kind of book better with a read along. I'm pretty flexible with when, so just let me know what everyone else decides.

Sign me up for Contact, definitely! I would also be interested in Kraken if you decide to do that one!

We'll let you know when we start! We are first going to read Cry to Heaven in mid August. So Contact will be September at the earliest. Normally we know a couple of days to a week before we start what book we are going to read. So you will have time to finish you're other books :)
Kraken will be read after we do the Deserted Island books.

Gonna try and keep a list:
- Dreamless (1-9 August) Lu and Chriz so far
- Cry to Heaven (mid August) Barbara and Lauren
- The Passage (later In August, even September) Lauren, Varla and Liezel
- Contact - (September) Barbara, Varla and Lauren
Other Interests: Kraken

Great! I guess we start when Lauren S. is back in Ethiopia after visiting family and friends in SA. I believe she has one more week before she heads back. We will let you know when exactly.

Thanks Barbara will look forward to it.

For those who want to read The Passage, we can start right after the Cry to Heaven discussion has ended, and then we can do Contact in mid or late September, if all goes according to plan. How does that sound?

That suits me Lauren. I also hope you enjoy The Passage, I am assuming that you and Lu are reading it for the Deserted Island Challenge. It was my nomination and I loved it, looking forward to the sequel which is out in October.

I don't think Lu's joining the read-along though.
I won't be reading it with you either. I have thought about it and I rather wait till all the books are out and read it in one go. I get frustrated if I have to wait years for the next book. So I rather read series in one go. I have also already read a nomination made by Emma so I don't need it for the Deserted Island. But of course I will be there for Cry to Heaven and Contact.

Edit: It's a mobi file.

Fine by me. :)
Got another question for you. We have talked about reading Duma Key by Stephen King. First you said you didn't want to read the book, then you said you might and in this discussion you said you might not read it. Could you give me a definite answer? The only reason I haven't yet read the book is that you might read it with me. I don't mind waiting if I know I am going to read the book with you, but I really want to get some challenges out of the way, so I can read books I choose because I want to read them and not because I need them for a challenge. :)

You're not holding me up! I didn't mean it that way. But I just like getting the books out of the way that I have to read for challenges. I have all these different piles for different challenges and I like to see them go. :) I am now reading the last books for the A-Z challenges so my mind is on completing challenges.
And we still have The Club Dumas and Contact to read too for the Deserted island Challenge, so it is not like I need that book to finish it. But since you were going back and forth a bit about this book I just wanted to know what we were going to do with it and now I do. Thanks!

I am liable to read the whole thing in a few days, if I have enough time. If that is OK with you, I'm good with no schedule.
