In 2012, 31 Good Readers came together to form a discussion group about "The Savage Detectives".

Not only did they share a passion for the works of Roberto Bolano, they all liked vegetables and vegetarian cuisine, especially cabbage.

They established a literary movement and, in the next 17 years, achieved literary and culinary fame as "The Cabbage Detectives".

This is their story.

The Rules:

The proposal is for each of us to write one or more oral histories about events and other members of The Cabbage Detectives (fictional or otherwise) in the format of an interview from Part II of The Savage Detectives.

Format:

The format must include an introductory section in bold font, which states:

* the name of the interviewee;

* the place of the interview

* the address of the place (if a home or cafe, etc)

* the date of the interview.

Content:

There is no required content, except that it be written in the first person, that it be insightful and/or funny, and that it not be hurtful.

Where to Post Your Interviews:

Put your interviews in the Interviews folder:

http://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/9...

Where to Post Your Comments on Interviews:

Comments on the interviews should not be made in the Interviews folder, because that folder should end up being just the interviews themselves.

If you want to comment, refer to the post number and make your comment in the Comments folder:

http://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/9...

Consent:

Because of the risk of offence, I ask that nobody write about anyone who has not consented to participate.

If you write an interview about someone else (but haven't formally commented), your interview will be treated as a consent to be the subject matter of someone else's interview.

Post your consents here:

http://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/9...

Sounds interesting. And that is to happen right here in this thread in a kind of free-for-all format?

Yeah, in the Interviews folder.

GR actually has (used to have?) a facility for "stories", which I have never used.

Has anyone used it?

But this is our own alternative and an attempt to create our own work of collective "fiction".

The vegetation starts NOW!

Trav, I was wondering whether you would consent to be "the Mother of All Cabbage Detectives"? (This is meant to be the highest possible accolade and an amulet to be worn down the ages.)

Stephen M | 43 comments I can't even describe how awesome this idea is Ian. I'm so excited to get started!

I've been giggling to myself all day, wondering when you guys would chime in.

Stephen M | 43 comments So the content of the interview should be about another member of the group?

Not necessarily, I think that would be too hard.
