Tracy | 1 comments Painter of Silence isn't available in the US until September so I haven't read it - although judging by her past work, I feel fairly safe in hoping that it will get a spot.

I really enjoyed both Lively's How it All Began and Mawer's The Girl Who Fell from the Sky, but I don't think either is the strongest work by their respective authors and I'm not sure I'd consider either of them Booker-worthy.

I'd actually feel a bit like the judges were phoning it in if Mantel's makes the list this year!

Personally, I have a soft spot for The Street Sweeper by Elliot Perlman and really hope it hits the list.

Andrea (anjreana) I'd expect Peter Carey's 'Chemistry of Tears' to be there, maybe also Emily Perkin's 'The Forrests'. Of the other 'possibles', nothing really stands out. I liked both Penelope Lively and Mawer's books, but I'm not sure they will make the long list. So too 'Bring out the bodies' - really enjoyable, but I wouldn't expect it to be in a list of the best fiction of the year (even if it was a better read than 'Wolf Hall'!)
