Isabelle has dark eyes. All the rest of the Lightwoods, including her parents, have blue eyes. Blue eyes are recessive, which means that the daughter of Robert and Maryse Lightwood cannot physically have dark eyes. Cassandra Clare emphasizes this so much that I don't think it's just a scientific slip-up on her part. She also makes it a point of mentioning that Robert had an affair...so maybe Maryse did too.

I think Cecily and Gabriel had a kid.
and then that's how Alec got the eyes and hair and Isabelle got the pendant that Cecily wore.

it is possible for izzy to have dark eyes because brown eyes are a more dominant gene and if either parent has the code (this does not mean the parents have brown eyes) for brown eyes it will be passed on

i am in 6 th grade and i notest that and i knowhow she has dark eyes it is simple geneolagy

With basic genetics she shouldn't be able to have brown eyes, but the gene could very well have mutated

No, they both have blue, which is why she SHOULD have blue eyes. Genes can mutate though, so it's not like we really need to start questioning her parents.

Cassie posted on tumblr some time ago that it is possible for blue-eyed parents to have a brown-eyed child. Plus when Jocelyn went to Idris and saw Izzy she was stunned just how much Izzy looked like Meryse, she actually called her by her mother's name. So I think it's save to say that Izzy is a Lightwood.

Well actually gideon and gabriel had brown dark eyes. And it is 1/4 possible that Isabelle gets the eyes of her grandparents and ancestors so... Izzy has the hair, height and everything of the Lightwoods.

Actually Gideon and Gabriel both had green eyes. But my theory is that the blue eyes got passed on to Gabriel and Cecily's children through Cecily and that Isabelle is just as much a Lightwood as Alec is. And Max doesn't have blue eyes as well, his are grey.

It is said that Isabelle has black eyes. Robert AND Maryse both have blue eyes. Two recessive.

You know who says that? Valentine. You know who has black eyes? Valentine.

I can totally see that, and my friend saw that too but, *spoilers for those who haven't read CoHF* that was disproven in City of Heavenly Fire. Isabelle is a Lightwood, she probably just didn't get the blue eye gene.

I thought a lot about Isabelle's eyes and I do think she is Valentine's love child with Maryse. Also on her tumblr she did go into the paragraph about eyes and genetics but at the end of it she wrote.. "So two dark eyes parents can have a light eyes child and it actually is quite common." But both of Isabelle's parents have light eyes while she has dark eyes.

I sorta kinda hope that she isn't cuz that would be an intersting twist

This is for Ellie- it can be vice versa: light+light=dark, dark+dark=light.

Also for B, I thought it would be a kind if weird plot twist cuz then Isabelle would be half sisters with Clary and.... I don't know, I just thought that would be awkward

It's certainly more common for dark+dark=light though. In that circumstance, all you need is for each dark-eyed parent to be carrying the recessive light-eyed gene, which they can easily do without it having any physical effects. For light+light=dark, however, a gene mutation would need to take place, which is statistically far less likely.

I just think that since it is unlikely for two light eyes parents to have a dark eyed child, that Cassie wouldn't do something like this for nothing. Is that just me?

also valentine has black eyes so its more likely than the whole recessive gene thing

Genetics isn’t that simple , there are couples with blue eyes who have children with brown eyes and vice versa, genetics is complex and if a grandparent for example had brown eyes , they could pass down that gene.

She (Isabelle) could have gotten her eye color from Benedict Lightwood. He is her great(I think its x3) grandfather. He had dark eyes its been said.

I disagree. Even though Valentine was a deeply troubled man some say he was even evil. From all the info and stories that are out there. Valentine was very much in love with Jocelyn. And to be honest I don't think he ever looked at Maryse in any other way then a follower in his cause.
