"Just finished the chapter on selfies and battling Photoshop culture. I think I need to write an essay or record a video about ethical Photoshop (or rather, ethical photomanipulation). That’s important to me as a graphic designer and artist. That’s my only qualm. (Well, that and the assertion that men have thicker skin than women. Gotta look up if that’s true scientifically.)" Ariel Levy
“Even if you are a woman who achieves the ultimate and becomes like a man, you will still always be like a woman. And as long as womanhood is thought of as something to escape from, something less than manhood, you will be thought less of, too.”
Ariel Levy

Laurie Halse Anderson
“In one aspect, yes, I believe in ghosts, but we create them. We haunt ourselves.”
Laurie Halse Anderson, Wintergirls

John Green
“The marks humans leave are too often scars.”
John Green, The Fault in Our Stars

Luther Standing Bear
“Wherever forests have not been mowed down, wherever the animal is recessed in their quiet protection, wherever the earth is not bereft of four-footed life - that to the white man is an 'unbroken wilderness.'

But for us there was no wilderness, nature was not dangerous but hospitable, not forbidding but friendly. Our faith sought the harmony of man with his surroundings; the other sought the dominance of surroundings.

For us, the world was full of beauty; for the other, it was a place to be endured until he went to another world.

But we were wise. We knew that man's heart, away from nature, becomes hard.”
Chief Luther Standing Bear

N.D. Wilson
“The world is rated R, and no one is checking IDs. Do not try to make it G by imagining the shadows away. Do not try to hide your children from the world forever, but do not try to pretend there is no danger. Train them. Give them sharp eyes and bellies full of laughter. Make them dangerous. Make them yeast, and when they’ve grown, they will pollute the shadows.”
N.D. Wilson, Notes From The Tilt-A-Whirl: Wide-Eyed Wonder in God's Spoken World
