Clunky prose, a main character that's had nearly 100,000 years to become someone interesting but has only managed to be a raging narcissist, a Vin Diesel movie plot that the greatest sci-fi and fantasy authors could have never turned into the sort of high brow modern fantasy they seem to be going for here. You'll read the summary and think you're getting a cool action book, only to quickly find out that the author uses a convenient plot device to not write nearly any action sequences. And though I can appreciate subverted expectations, I expect the writers to compensate in some way, and frankly they don't. Ultimately this book feels very much like a collection of squandered opportunities and a failure to understand what elements of the plot could actually be interesting. As a result it feels boring and cheap. It's a deepish rumination on what immortality would be like, and though these ultra-thin "revelations" may hold appeal to those with the philosophical depth of a washcloth, most thinking people will feel insulted. I strongly suggest you don't bother with this book unless you're interested in what very bad dual authorship looks like....more
