His ugliness was the stuff of legend. In an age of affordable beauty, there was something heraldic about his lack of it.
Jonathan Cook
This comment makes me think about the way we now use an array of apps to create the appearance of beautiful lives, filtering the awkward and ugly moments out of our online profiles. Douglas Adams
“A cup of tea would restore my normality."

[Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy, Screenplay]”
Douglas Adams

“In truth a family is what you make it. It is made strong, not by number of heads counted at the dinner table, but by the rituals you help family members create, by the memories you share, by the commitment of time, caring, and love you show to one another, and by the hopes for the future you have as individuals and as a unit.”
Marge Kennedy

Muriel Barbery
“When tea becomes ritual, it takes its place at the heart of our ability to see greatness in small things. Where is beauty to be found? In great things that, like everything else, are doomed to die, or in small things that aspire to nothing, yet know how to set a jewel of infinity in a single moment?”
Muriel Barbery, The Elegance of the Hedgehog

Michael Pollan
“The shared meal elevates eating from a mechanical process of fueling the body to a ritual of family and community, from the mere animal biology to an act of culture.”
Michael Pollan, In Defense of Food: An Eater's Manifesto

Chris Bohjalian
“Food is a gift and should be treated reverentially--romanced and ritualized and seasoned with memory.”
Chris Bohjalian, Secrets of Eden
