"Not sure about this so far. I love Daniel Handler, but the protagonist's voice seems inconsistent thus far: while she is witty, trendy, and clearly intelligent/self-aware, she'll spell things incorrectly and leave her sentences incomplete. But maybe this is just part of her quirkyness; it's difficult to tell yet." Jan 29, 2013 11:55AM

Milan Kundera
“When the heart speaks, the mind finds it indecent to object.”
Milan Kundera, The Unbearable Lightness of Being

Kurt Vonnegut Jr.
“Tiger got to hunt, bird got to fly;
Man got to sit and wonder 'why, why, why?'
Tiger got to sleep, bird got to land;
Man got to tell himself he understand.”
Kurt Vonnegut, Cat’s Cradle

Lemony Snicket
“Fate is like a strange, unpopular restaurant filled with odd little waiters who bring you things you never asked for and don't always like.”
Lemony Snicket

Karen Thompson Walker
“Later, I would come to think of those first days as the time when we learned as a species that we had worried over the wrong things: the hole in the ozone layer, the melting of the ice caps, West Nile and swine flu and killer bees. But I guess it never is what you worry over that comes to pass in the end. The real catastrophes are always different—unimagined, unprepared for, unknown.”
Karen Thompson Walker, The Age of Miracles

Harper Lee
“You never really understand a person until you consider things from his point of view... Until you climb inside of his skin and walk around in it.”
Harper Lee, To Kill a Mockingbird
