I picked this one up for several reasons, Michael Silverblatt adores it, Steven Moore blurbed it, Chris Via has an afterword, George hates it, &c. I am having a *BLAST* 70 pages in. It really nails Guanajuato, Guanajuato like Peter Greenaway's Eisenstein in Guanajuato.

This book is like minecraft —you take it in wandering around the earth and humanity not quite right, this uncanny unease amidst serenity and you just keep walking around thinking wow look another gigantic wing of this castle somebody built

Even at the modest pace of about three pages a day, this one holds up and makes you want to keep reading
