the world of this book feels as real to me as middle-earth.

I find it impossible to like Jude and I am always aware of Hanya trying to crudely manipulate my emotions. I understand all art does but this is so in your face I disengage. Jude doesn’t feel real, Caleb doesn’t, Willem doesn’t, Harold doesn’t. I am unable to forget for a second about Hanya writing this ridiculous story. If this was a movie, a loud sound of sad violin would be playing nonstop on a loop.

Not having sex: it was one of the best things about being an adult.

This book is suddenly under the delusion that anyone cares about JB or Malcolm. Come on, Hanya, this is Jude's show and that's how you been writing it so far.

leynes bahaha, exactly. frodo's journey to mount doom is more believable than all the shit (combined) that jude is going through.

the abuse was only hinted at, but for some reason these middle aged men all sound like teenagers and prince Jude put some sort of spell on everyone around him that makes them want to help him 24/7, even people who he barely has a relationship with. such a weird feeling I have about this story. also it has a vibe of hallmark movie, too sweet

Jonathan O'Neill I don't know about all that, but the dude on the cover is definitely fake crying! :D

thecursed_Reader💫📖📚 🤣🤣🤣😮‍💨.
I agree with people who said it was tragic porn

Aaron Always happy to see another A Little Life hater! One of the more embarrassing books I've (hate) read.

nastya wait! I’m not a hater yet, there’s still 500+ pages left! I just couldn’t help but notice the weirdness. @jon— since I went into this book completely spoiled about everything, I am noticing the writing and I keep wondering about HY’s choices. this weird cover is also a choice I am wondering about. it doesn’t even look like he is crying, it reminds me of the posters for lars von triers’s nymphomaniac. and it’s weird because so far this is the most asexual thing ever.

Jan-Maat Iirc the picture on the cover is called 'orgasmic man', so has not much to do with crying, at least not in a sorrowful sense

nastya i didn’t check, but seems I was right about the connection to nymphomaniac. perhaps the syrupy sweetness of Jude’s life and extreme pain of it is the duality represented by this orgasming man?

Ah, jumped the gun, I'll check back when you've finished to see if you have joined the club.

That is... an unfortunate expression and a regrettable piece of knowledge that you've bestowed upon us, J! 😁 My 2nd guess would've been 'Guitar-solo Man' actually.

Ohhh dear, that suddenly looks ever weirder.

nastya “ The price had almost nauseated him, but his classmate said he had to do it: “This is an unbelievable deal, Jude. You will never, never, never find something that size in that neighborhood for this amount of money.” ….And although he and the Goldfarbs had worked out a leisurely ten-year payment schedule, an interest-free rent-to-own plan, he was determined to pay the apartment off as soon as he could. … He told Harold he had moved during their weekly phone call, but didn’t tell him he had bought a place, because he didn’t want Harold to feel obligated to offer him money for it.”

what is this world and how can I get there?
