I'm very rarely a mystery reader. The manga of this story didn't catch my attention until the "garden party" episode, and I expect this novel will have a similar arc. I'm also hoping that some of the characters besides Maomao and Jinshi will pop a bit more, and that we'll see some fun court intrigue.

Off to a good start. Maomao is a fun character and Jinshi is a great foil for her. Intriguing dashes of medieval pharmacology.

Light novels are great for in between heftier reading projects, unsurprisingly. :) I like to try the first version of a story first, when available, so I'll read this before watching the anime.
