It looks like I've been carrying this book around like a millstone for over two months without reading another page. After finally reading a couple more chapters, it's going decently.
At times this book is creepy as hell. The less often we hear about the Sunrunners' sexual initiation ceremony, the better, imo, but it keeps coming up again and again.

I'm convinced the hypocrisies of the "good" characters are seen by the narrative, though not very deeply or for very long. Much as in the first book, I'm not convinced they're so different from the "bad" ones, aside from that one side grins and teases 24/7, and the other doesn't.

I'd like to get a few chapters in on this one before I'm on the hook for another group read.

There's a better way to approach re-introducing a cast of characters than paragraph-long lists of names/places. At least there's a dramatis personae.
I recall feeling more sympathy toward Roelstra's daughters than Rohan and co. while reading the first book (notably in its latter stages), and am feeling much the same way very early in this one. :)

Continuing another series that I enjoyed, but let lie fallow for far too long. I'm thrilled that Judith Tarr's reread blog of this series is still available on Reactor, and I will be reading her posts as I go along, just as I did with the first book over [redacted] years ago.
