Met with my lovely editor this week about my next book. It's a novel about a musician and a magical instrument. Now here's a question for all of you: which instrument?

Elaine Not a flute, that's been done. How about a piccolo?

message 2: by Dotty (new)

Dotty I'm partial to cello and bassoon. The richness of tones and the ability to vibrate your core without excessive volume make both instruments multi-dimensional and emotive.

message 3: by Judith (new)

Judith If it needs to be portable what about the violin?

message 4: by Renee (new)

Renee Alarid I say a cello or a violin...both in the same family of instruments.

message 5: by Brittie (new)

Brittie Clarinet.

Bibliophilic Richard a guitar! :D or a piano

message 14: by Charie (new)

Charie Guitar may be overrated (as some people say it is) but personally, Guitar's so awesome and it's magical. So yes, this is just an unpopular suggestion, Thanks Sir Mitch :)

Jeront Guitar please?

message 16: by Eileen (new)

Eileen Violin

message 17: by Anon_aura (new)

Anon_aura Hi, I was just wondering, a harp? I personally find it beautiful and it just attracts me in a certain way, like the piano and the violin, but somehow I have a deeper feeling for it... Unexplainable, really. :)

message 22: by Jamie (new)

Jamie I'm thinking a harmonica or a harp. :)

message 23: by Adele (new)

Adele This is different, but what about drums? I have in mind such as in drum circles. I found the beat of the drums to be quite primeval, and I felt that beat deep in my inner being.

message 24: by Lynn (new)

Lynn Godek A magical instrument mentioned heretofore in literature? Or a newly imagined one, creating endless possibilities? I'd go with the kazoo. A magical Kazoo.

message 33: by Adele (new)

Adele YAY, Rianne! I think you and I are the only ones so far pulling for drums. :-)

message 34: by R (new)

R How about a keytar?

message 35: by Wendy (new)

Wendy Magical instrument ... Hmmm depends on the character , more old school I would suggest a harmonica , if we are more contemporary I would suggest a violin . As both are easily transportable.

A little more hipster could have the person playing something like a ukelele

message 36: by Adele (new)

Adele Vera wrote: "How about a keytar?"

(I had to google that.) :-)

message 37: by Cori (new)

Cori Ditzell-Carlin French horn.

message 38: by Emily (new)

Emily Ladonga string instruments are the best. But if it is something super portable I would suggest drum sticks. They can be carried anywhere and the character can use them on anything they like. Anything can be a drum.

message 39: by Lillian (new)

Lillian Piano or a string instrument...they are all so captivating :)

message 40: by Sharon (new)

Sharon Heaverly I have always thought a harp was magical.
