My own upside-down life inspires me to write. I'm talking about the hilarious moments, the mishaps, the misunderstandings, the embarrassments, mix-ups and the mortifications...honestly, it's like I was destined to write humor and romantic comedy! LOL I have folders on my computer dedicated to documents detailing all the ridiculous stuff that's happened to me over the years, and I often use that material in my books.

Read as much as you possibly can to become familiar with how stories are constructed. Recognize what a "sagging middle" is and learn how to avoid it. Thoroughly examine books that are well-written, as well as those that are poorly written. Do you find yourself riveted, captivated by the characters and/or the plot? Or did you find the book dull, annoying, amateurish, or simply uninteresting? Ask yourself why. Study novels as if they were textbooks. And keep doing this throughout your writing career.

I love creating fictional worlds and the characters who populate them, then hanging out with my character buddies for hours each day. We spend time at their favorite hangouts (that I created, of course). We laugh and cry together. They give me new ideas, and chastise me for getting some things wrong. So, in essence, the majority of my time consists of doing stuff with the people living inside my head. And...if THAT doesn't make me sound nutty as a fruitcake, I don't know what does! LOL!
