I woke to the sun streaming through the autumn colors of the maples scattered about my property. I turned to kiss my wife of 40 years; my mouth going dry as I choked back a scream at the shredded remains of the love of my life.

Yes I do Scott. I've had some success with Facebook, though not up to my expectations as far as return on investment.
I have had excellent response through Goodreads, and decent response from Facebook and Twitter on Free Kindle version giveaways.
I've developed a list of readers for advance release copies, which gets me reviews prior to release.
I have had moderate success selling through my website. I offer autographed copies at same price as Amazon, and ship free to lower 48.
I've also tried local book stores and signings with few results - that may be due to my lack of promoting the event; relying on the bookstore.
Advertising - running a campaign through Amazon KDP is reasonable, as you set the daily budget.
All in all, I've gotten the best response from Facebook, but it hasn't been profitable. I get about 50% of my royalties through Kindle Unlimited with approx 3000 pages a month - the equivalent of about 30 books per month.
Hope that helps, and good luck. Send me a link to your work if you've published and I will put something on my to-review list.

I got the idea for Memoirs of the Not-So Grim Reaper from current climate in our country, political and religious. We are becoming a polarized nation of have's and have not's, as well as a resurgence in open bigotry and racism. When I hear the President of my country denigrate anyone that disagrees with him I cringe. It's like watching a playground bully push his way around, and then whine and piss and moan when he doesn't get his way. Yes, that truly is the inspiration for Memoirs.
You'll just have to read it to understand. I'm not big on spoilers, and you will laugh a hell of a lot more than you think. You might even cry as many have or get angry with me as others do. That's okay. At least you will be feeling....

For poetry - it could be anything. A thought, a picture, a view, a word overheard, people observed, anything in nature, a memory or a hope of the future.
For my fiction, my inspiration is simple. I write because I love it. I'm never going to be rich or famous and I don't care. My life plays out in my fiction, at least a lot of it. Many of the scenarios I write about have their roots deeply embedded in my past experiences. Sure, I take literary license with them, but there is truth in my fiction. There always will be, even in Memoirs of the Not-So Grim Reaper. There's probably more of my personal views in that story than anything I will ever write. It was the most fun I've had to date writing. I even made someone snort laugh coffee while she was reading it. I can't aspire for a better review for my first attempt at supernatural humor. Oh, and there's a message woven through the laughs that I've been told packs a hell of a punch. Perfect.

I am presently working on the second of the Lazarus Chronicles, the story of Lazarus Solaris, contract killer, vigilante and philanthropist. The working title for the follow up to "Evolution of a Killer" is "Family of a Killer." It's not about traditional family at all. It's about Lazarus' connections to people that transcend the concept of family. The main plot is the rescue of one of his closest friends from a Mexican Drug Cartel seeking vengeance for the death of their Boss at the hands of Lazarus, known as "The Chameleon" in the criminal world.

Read. Read. Read. Write. Read. Read. Read. Write. I've already read 71 novels this year, and it's still August. There is nothing like reading good authors to inspire and even teach you how to be a better writer. Not just today's, but the classics, too. Alexander Dumas was one of my early favorites, but so were Louis L'Amour, Earl Stanley Gardner and Edgar Rice Burroughs. As far as encouragement, just keep moving forward. Write for yourself and you will always be satisfied with your work.

To me, the best thing about being a writer is the ability to reach inside another human being and touch their heart or emotions, however you would word it, and get a reaction. I have heard from readers that cried, laughed, got mad at me, wanted to hug me, wanted to hit me, wanted to adopt me and one that wanted to "pound me into the ground like a tent peg." I know I have accomplished my goal through the reactions of the readers.

I don't often encounter that particular issue when writing. I normally have two or three works in progress, so if one isn't flowing, I move to another. In time it all seems to sort itself out and I return to where I left off.
