Scott Thurman
Scott Thurman asked Robert Ullrich:

Do you self-promote your books? Which marketing exercise proved to give you the greatest return?

Robert Ullrich Yes I do Scott. I've had some success with Facebook, though not up to my expectations as far as return on investment.
I have had excellent response through Goodreads, and decent response from Facebook and Twitter on Free Kindle version giveaways.
I've developed a list of readers for advance release copies, which gets me reviews prior to release.
I have had moderate success selling through my website. I offer autographed copies at same price as Amazon, and ship free to lower 48.
I've also tried local book stores and signings with few results - that may be due to my lack of promoting the event; relying on the bookstore.
Advertising - running a campaign through Amazon KDP is reasonable, as you set the daily budget.
All in all, I've gotten the best response from Facebook, but it hasn't been profitable. I get about 50% of my royalties through Kindle Unlimited with approx 3000 pages a month - the equivalent of about 30 books per month.

Hope that helps, and good luck. Send me a link to your work if you've published and I will put something on my to-review list.
Robert
