Through the entrepreneurs I interview and the companies I own. But specifically, it is the challenges in those businesses that inspire me to find the answers and then write about them.
For example, Profit First was inspired by the fact that almost every entrepreneur I know has a business that is just getting by - living check to check. This is true for startups and true for $10M companies. It was such a common theme (including in my own entrepreneurial endeavors) that I set out to find an answer. When I did, I tried it on myself and my friends companies. After years of testing and tweaking, I wrote the book.

People take your word more seriously. What I write about is the same stuff I have been talking about for years prior. Now it is just in the book. And for some magical reason people start to take it far more seriously.
It is a pretty cool "power." If you want to get a point across, and have people seriously value it, put it in a book.

I stop writing. It may sound strange... but when I am struggling to write, I simply give myself a break. I have an advantage of owning (and being on the board) of multiple companies. So when I can't write, I dig more and more into my work. And it is in that work that I get inspired to write more.
Another trick is to read more. I LOVE reading. And when I struggle to write, I read more. There is lot's of inspiration there.

A few books... one is about sparking a stampede of sales. Another is about making anything run on automatic. Another is about applying profit first to our personal lives. They all have me excited. And i honestly don't know which one I will complete first. But I do know I am writing almost every day right now.

My inspiration for Profit First came to me from my own inability to make a profit. I thought I was flawed, and simply needed to grow my businesses faster to 'finally' become profitable. That is when I discovered the human behavioral theorem of Parkinson's Law.
With an understanding of how our mind works with money (or anything that is available to us in varying quanitities), I experimented with my own businesses. That was back in 2007... And it worked! Over the next 5 years I perfected it for myself and with others that I consulted. Then I wrote the book on how to do it.
I truly believe anyone who follows the simple Profit First process, will experience degrees of financial confidence and actual profit like they never have before.
