They'll always be friends, but I think it works better that way. Best M

I knew there was always a limit to how far I could take Joe when I gave him Parkinson's and I aged him in real time. But I have never ruled out the idea of bringing him back - perhaps as a mentor for Charlie, his daughter, who is studying to be a psychologist. Stay tuned.

If I can think of another story for Evie and Cyrus there will be another. For the moment, I have other stories on the go, but Evie and Cyrus are still with me, whispering in my ear, telling me to get a move on. Best M

There really isn't an answer to your question about Cyrus's timeline. I created his character in THE SECRETS SHE KEEPS and I became fascinated with his tragic back story. I knew I wanted to carry on writing him, so I came up with the Evie and Cyrus series. Sorry I can't offer you more. As to whether there will be a Book 5, I haven't decided yet. Happy reading. M

It's certainly been suggested, but I would have to come up with the right case for them to solve. And also work out which TV company would get the rights to the book because Joe and Cyrus have been optioned by different production houses.

I haven't decided if there will be another book with Cyrus and Evie. I have left a few loose ends in STORM CHILD but also answered most of the questions I set out to answer. I'll keep you posted.

There is a scientific basis for someone such as Evie. About one in 500 people have an 80% ability to tell when someone is lying either verbally, emotionally or physically. Often these 'truth wizards' have spent years working in law enforcement or child services or the prison system and pick up the skill, but there is also evidence that a violent or abusive childhood can also lead people to have a heightened ability to pick up on microexpressions that indicate someone is lying.

Hi Aiden, I had no idea I'd offended the Irish. I know that in some of my early books I had references to the IRA and one or two of my villains have had an Irish background. Then again, after eighteen books, I've had villains of various nationalities and genders. In the past I've been criticised for having a villain with a Jewish name, accused of pandering to stereotypes, which was never my intention. I have a quarter Irish blood in me and was raised a Roman Catholic, and have loved my many visits to Ireland. I apologise if I've caused any offence. Best M

My brother Andrew - who is three years younger and still lives in Coffs.

I never get tired of answering questions from readers. If they stop asking them - they've probably stopped caring, or reading, which would be a huge shame. As for Joe and Vincent - I've never ruled out the possibility of bringing them back again, but I will need to find the right story. I'm always looking.
Michael Robotham
Joe and Vincent haven't completely retired and I am always looking for a storyline that might suit them. I'll keep you posted. M

It will be in June/July of 2024.

Thanks for the support. I have toured Germany in the past, but not since the dreaded pandemic. I'll let you know if it happens again. And to answer your question: What don't I like as a writer? Reviewers who think they've discovered a factual error in the text (which does happen), but more often than not - I'm right and they're wrong. As Mark Twain famously said: 'It's not what we know that's the problem. It's what we think we know and we're wrong.'

A crossover is always a possibility. I have mentioned Joe in a few of the Cyrus novels, indicating that he was one of Cyrus's lecturers when he studied psychology. Stay tuned.

What a great question! It's not something I have ever thought about before, but clearly, i do often have physically petite women in my books. It is probably a subconscious thing. I'm not a particularly tall bloke and I find really tall women intimidating. Most of my celebrity crushes are also quite petite. Audrey Hepburn. Emilia Clarke. Anna De Armas. Maybe that's the reason. I shall bear it mind going forward. Happy reading.

Hi Graham, I have no immediate plans to write another Joe O'Loughlin book, but I have never ruled out the possibility that I will write another book, perhaps featuring Joe and his daughter, Charlie, who was studying psychology in the last book of the series. Happy reading.
Michael Robotham
I may have to look in on Joe O'Loughlin and find out he and the girls are doing. It's been a while.
Michael Robotham
That's a question I leave up to each reader to decide. I have my own view, but I don't think that matters. Telling a story can often requires the reader to make decisions and choices.

Many years ago, before I became a novelist, I was a journalist and ghostwriter. One of my collaborations was with Tony Bullimore, the round-the-world sailor who capsized in the Southern Ocean and triggered one of the most dramatic rescues in maritime history. Tony, now deceased, was a long time Bristol resident and I spent a few months in the city when we were working on the book.
