Harriet Evans Hi Caitlin I only just saw this question! Thank you so much. I had an image in my head of two children, running through a beautiful sloping garden, and that this was a moment of pure happiness and freedom and beauty. And I didn't know anything else than that. Of course that is what eventually becomes the painting. I put the scene where Ned paints the painting at the exact middle of the book - you can check. I wanted it to be the point the story works up to and then, of course, where it all falls away. Thank you again! x
Harriet Evans Hi Margo thanks a lot, I'm so glad you enjoyed The Wildflowers. I moved lots of that book around actually, it was important to get the tension right about what you find out about the past when. No, I don't write in one block, it wouldn't give you the right flow for the book as a whole. But as I say, I didn't write it start to finish in that order, as I did take a while to work out more than a lot of my other books actually where everything goes. So many big characters in that book - Maddie, Althea, Cord, Dinah, most of all Tony - who all need their moment. Aw I love this book, haven't thought about it for ages, thank you. x
Harriet Evans Hi Jen and I am so sorry I never answered this question! Babies... The Butterfly Summer and all my other books are audio books already! You can find them on Amazon.co.uk x x x
Harriet Evans Lord Peter Wimsey and Harriet Vane... because she was clever and great and had her own life and he was a mixed up handsome intellectual with a lovely scroll shape to his ear (Gaudy Night). Also Venetia and Damerel in Georgette Heyer's Venetia. Also, most of all, Anne Elliot and Captain Wentworth *heart-eyes emoji*
Harriet Evans Hi Barbara, i'm afraid I didn't organise the giveaway, my publishers did. If you didn't receive a copy then you didn't win one sadly - unless they notified you that they did? If you have the email from them then contact them directly. Hope that helps... Thanks, Harrie
Harriet Evans Hah! I'm really sorry it's torture Chelsea but it's lovely to hear from you. I don't think you can get it yet in the US as the digital edition is UK only (maybe I'm wrong about this). It's out in the US in June. It was published in parts in the UK to try something different, really. It was my publisher's idea and I was all for it. It had 4 parts and each was quite distinct so they thought it'd be fun to do it that way and really ratchet up the suspense / create more interest around it. Hopefully that's worked! It's out in paperback next Thursday in the UK, so it's a bit like having a hardback first then a paperback. I hope you get to read it soon and thank you so much for writing. Also that when you read it, you think it's worth the wait ;) I am vv proud of it. happy new year. x
Harriet Evans I have managed to delete my answer Chris! This is what happened when you type on your phone instead of on the computer! Argh!!! Hope you saw it anyway? Happy Christmas Eve xx
Harriet Evans Haha, it's definitely being in your pajamas and not having to go to the office. BUT I also miss the office a lot and miss buying my coffee and walking down the road to work and being part of the world and not a loon in my pjs! So probably the best thing is making something yourself that sits on your shelf. I love that about my job that i can point to a book and say: I wrote that. Sounds mad but it is really special.
