B. Lynn Goodwin You are right. Back during WWII, when my father was in Bahrain, he discovered that whole families wove rungs and no two were the same. I still have 2 of the 3 rugs he brought back, and I often wonder if the descendants of those rug makers are still in the business. Bet they'd have interesting stories to tell.
B. Lynn Goodwin The first time I remember wanting to write was the day a Bobbsey Twins book arrived in the mail back at 617 Old Orchard. I must have been 6 or 7 and may have a lot of details scrambled, but I loved the idea of writing and having a check arrive in the mail, though I don't know how I would have known about checks back then. Somehow the whole idea stayed with me, replaying in dreams as well as my conscious mind. I always wanted to write, working alone at a portable typewriter, preferably at my mother's desk by the window at 617. There's be peace and productivity in self-expression. Definitely, I evolved as an author, though I always wanted to write. Thanks for this journey taking me back.
B. Lynn Goodwin Although writer's block in not inevitable, it's probable unless you balance your schedule with reading, editing, family, friends, and maybe even a job that pays the bills.

The good side of my writer's block is that I start thinking differently and ask my narrator what should happen next. I also make "What if" lists and see what comes of that. Of course my best ideas come when there is no way to write them down, but the good ones stick with you. Hope this helps.
B. Lynn Goodwin I'm not a horror writer. But I'd love to know what you come up with.
B. Lynn Goodwin Hmmm. Fictional . . . I was going to say that I'd go to the prairies occupied by Laura Ingalls Wilder and family, but that's not fictional. Nor is the world of Holden Caulfield. NYC is very real and so are prep schools. Carol Goodman uses the Hudson Valley, but once again, it's a real world.

I'd love to visit the literary world in Florida that's shown in Camino Island, just to hang out with those people and be reminded that everyone wants something. Maybe I am misunderstanding?

What I'd want to do in any of those worlds is step into the shoes of the character and experience the place from her or his point of view.

If I misunderstood something, please write back, and thanks for your question. It was a pleasure to find it.
B. Lynn Goodwin I'll read the ones sent for review of course, and probably more. Right now I am reading Eliza Henry Jones's debut novel, IN THE QUIET.
B. Lynn Goodwin From a real-life, highly improbable experience. Can a 62-year-old, who has never been married, find happiness with a two-time widower seeking his third wife on ... gulp ... Craigslist?
B. Lynn Goodwin While I appreciate the question, if I tell you, then I've given away a subject for my own writing. Have you ever tried looking at people you know and wondering what mysteries are in their life?

B. Lynn Goodwin Write whether you're inspired or not. Start with Today I want... or Today I hope... or I am worried about... or What if... Finish the sentence. Keep going. You are writing. If you keep writing without judging your brain will take you to the subject you truly want to write about.
B. Lynn Goodwin Getting published is nice, but getting my thoughts on paper is even better. The best thing will vary from one writer to another. I love getting lost in the work. That said, I'm going to work on making it happen more often.
B. Lynn Goodwin Maybe the couple in Iris, or the pair in The Gin Game. Oops! That's a play. Fictional couple... Hmmm. Obviously no specific couple comes to mind. That's because my favorite characters are usually the ones in the book I'm reading. So maybe it's Seth and the narrator in The Age of Miracles or the narrator and Owen in Stella Rosa.
