Gilly Macmillan Hi Nikola! Thanks for your question. I'm so sorry it took me so long to answer this!! I'm really pleased you enjoyed the book. I got the idea after a chat with my agent. We were talking about books where somebody goes missing and wondered if we could flip that, and develop a story where somebody reappears unexpectedly. A nanny seemed the perfect character to do that, as the job involves being so close to the family. I'm so pleased your experience of the job is so different! Best, Gilly
Gilly Macmillan Hi Charlotte I'm so sorry for the slow reply! Thanks so much for your kind words about my books. I have a book out already called ODD CHILD OUT (a follow-up to What She Knew featuring the same detective) and I KNOW YOU KNOW, a new novel will be published in September in North America and November in the UK :) Very best, Gilly
Gilly Macmillan Hi Cintia I am sorry for the delay in replying! The things you mention are all part and parcel of being a writer and if you want to continue to pursue your dream of becoming one, you will probably have to learn ways to live with that professionally. I try not to think about that stuff on a day to day basis, and just focus on whatever project I'm working on. That's the best way to get on. The book is the most important thing! I hope that helps a little. Best, Gilly
Gilly Macmillan Hi Debbie This is because this particular giveaway is organised by my US publisher. For Canadians to enter, the Canadian publisher would have to organise it, I believe. I'm so sorry! I love my Canadian readers so I don't like you to feel left out. You're not the only person to ask. There are sometimes specifically Canadian giveaways and competitions and I always share these on my Facebook page: www.facebook.com/gillymacmillanauthor. Very best, Gilly
Gilly Macmillan Hi Amy

Gilly Macmillan Hi Kala Thanks for your message. You'll need to contact the publisher directly to request an ARC. Thanks so much for your interest - much appreciated! Best, Gilly
Gilly Macmillan Hi Shirley! Thanks for getting in touch. I'm honoured that you will be presenting 'What She Knew' at your event. Thank you!! I have written a lot in interviews and in the material at the back of 'What She Knew' about the writing process and what has happened since the book has been published, but if I were to pick two things out I would say that 'What She Knew' is proof that if you are an aspiring writer you should hold your nerve, keep going and stick to what you think will make people turn pages (any reader will know the pleasure of a book that can do that). I wrote the book secretly and never thought it would be published! . I would also add that one of the best things about 'What She Knew' being out in the world has been finding a connection with readers, whether via a character they relate to, a plot point we can discuss or something else. I wrote the book from my heart, as a mother, and I tried hard to make it emotionally truthful. I hope your readers enjoy it if they pick it up! Many thanks & I hope you have an enjoyable evening, Gilly
Gilly Macmillan Hi! Thanks for thinking about reading my books :) What She Knew is a detective novel where you get to experience the case of a missing child through the eyes of the mother of the child and the detective investigating it. The Perfect Girl is more of a sinister family drama. Both are dark and twisty in different ways so I hope either would suit you! I hope you enjoy. Gilly
