On page 136 of Mongrels the narrator describes Brittany's grandfather. "In some book I'd read on my own, not for class, this old guy down on the Texas border had been described as having decades of sun folded into his face." Is that book possibly The Bird is Gone when LP Deal is describing the old man at the community center? "Ninety-two years of sunlight folded into the skin of his face, eyes cloudy from it."
Stephen Graham Jones oh, man, didn't think anyone would get that. thank you. yes. and? that line was originally from another thing I'd wrote—it might be in The Fast Red Road too?—but I smuggled it into Bird.

Not a question, Stephen, but just wanted to say I'm just over a third of the way into Mongrels and I'm utterly loving it. It's perfect in every way so far; prose, characters, original mythology, scenes, pace, flow. I have absolutely no idea where it's going, and that, I think, is what I love most about it. Can't wait to finish, but kind of don't want to, either. You know? You've got a new fan in me, that's for sure.

Out of all the books you have written, which would you say you are most proud of? And which one of your books would you recommend I read first?
Stephen Graham Jones Mongrels to start with, maybe? as for which I'm the most proud of, that's always the hardest question, as, to get things ranked like that, I then have to figure which I'm least proud of. before I ever get that far, my brain kind of statics over, goes all white noise. since of course I love them all, couldn't leave any of them out in the cold.

Stephen Graham Jones Mongrels and . . . either After the People Lights Have Gone Off (if you're into horror) or Growing Up Dead in Texas (if you're not into horror).

Hai Stephen, Names Ryan Abrahamson. 1/4 Spokane, Blackfeet, Flathead and Navajo. (Muttastic) I just finished 3rd draft of my book called The Pathfinders. Its about Orcs in Space. or something. I just wanted advice on where to start, like online resources for publishing and stuff. Do I just spam el manuscript el publishing peeps? Summon agents? Sacrifice small animals by fire and bath in the blood of the innocent?
Stephen Graham Jones mid-size animals get faster results, I hear. but, the real trick, near as I know it, is to find an agent. and "orcs in space" is supposed to be a description, I know, but it works just like a hook: I can already see it. "What if Middle Earth were the Kupier Belt?"
