True Colors

‘Tis the season of autumn! Due to shorter periods of daylight and cooler temperatures, deciduous leaves stop their food-making process. Hence, chlorophyll breaks down, whereby the green color disappears, giving rise to a spectrum of yellow, red, orange, and even purple hues. In essence, these manifestations are the leaves’ “true colors”.
An Indie author who primarily, but not exclusively, writes fiction in the genre of Contemporary, I strive to embrace realism and portray female protagonists over forty who grapple with, confront, and overcome their personal dilemmas to become empowered in making profound life changes for the better.
In order to achieve this goal, the characters must evolve organically so the reader can see their true colors:
From chapter 1 of 'An Enlightening Quiche'—in Augusta’s words:
Autumn was indeed a tragic opera when bleeding crimson hearts expired soon after attaining their height of glory. Sadness engulfed me and mushroomed into a dark cloud hovering over the realization my own peak season had terminated when I turned the Big Four O, beaucoup months ago last November. Thus far I hadn't exactly set the world on fire the way Mrs. Blais envisioned I would, subliminally affecting one of her many Freudian slips into Dante’s inferno.
Burnished or tarnished—when the reader finishes leafing through every page, the characters will have revealed their true colors.
The latest REVIEW excerpt – “Via two women narrators, I plunged into the intricate and tangled lives of Beauchemins' natives and had a great time. Pasco spins a complex and engaging narrative whose protagonists, Augusta and Lindsay, as well as Yolande, Monique, Hal, and Norm, felt like old friends. I could easily imagine dropping by their homes for a mug of coffee and having a good chat.”
*Art imitates life, whereby book characters eventually reveal their true colors.

Eva’s Byte #383 – Signs
Signs, subtle or obvious, are all around us.
This week I noticed subtle signs portending the seasonal transition to autumn. Tree branches relinquished their symbiotic hold on several leaves whose blades lay shriveled on the ground. A large acorn on the concrete walking path I take, reminded me of the squirrels’ instinctive diligence to gather and store food in preparedness for winter.
I welcome the anticipatory signs of autumn which preface colorful foliage, crisp air, and the cozy ambiance instilled in home and hearth from spice-scented candles.
In the capacity of a writer who’s a pantser all the way, my protagonist has given me a sign to transition into Part 2 of my Contemporary work in progress. I’m currently drafting chapter 19 (993 words thus far). If all goes according to plan, I’ll be following her advice in the following chapter.
*Since the universe abounds with signs, may each of us pay attention to interpret their significance.
My sincere appreciation for reading this far.

Eva’s Byte #385 – Prepped for Fall
Autumn is my favorite New England season for many reasons. Primarily, I love the kaleidoscope of colors deciduous leaves manifest in shades of red, yellow, and orange. From what I’ve read, tulip poplar trees initiate color changes in August. I’m waiting for the maples to show their true vibrant hues.
Nevertheless, at the tail end of summer, I’m prepped for fall within the confines of hearth and home. One of my own handcrafted scarecrows, wearing jeans and a proud plaid shirt, sits on a corner of my hutch. Thereon in, autumn’s ambience prevails through earth-toned scarves and table coverings. My fall gnomes are on display, front and center. Fabric pumpkins are scattered here and there. An apple cinnamon scent wafts from a plug-in diffuser.
Of course, I’ve got my eye on the near future of prepping for Christmas.
In my capacity of a writer, I’m in the throes of prepping the draft of chapter 19 (823 words thus far) to smoothly integrate the ambience of the 1950s in a backstory. It probably wouldn’t surprise you to know that one of the best “wedding first-dance songs” of the ‘50s was “Unforgettable” by Nat King Cole.
*May each of us embrace the winds of change nature and life strew along our paths.
My sincere appreciation for reading this far.

Eva’s Byte #435 – Subtleties
In my neck of New England, the subtleties of autumn are kicking out the summer jams:
Along my daily walks, I’ve come across several bird feathers scattered here and there. Apparently, molting generally occurs between late summer and early fall.
Landscapers have mulched the shrubbery beds.
There are mesh bags of cinnamon-scented pine cones for sale in the florist section of the supermarket, reminding me to pick up a couple of bags to replenish those in my decorative wicker baskets.
My local retailer has loaded the shelves with autumn-scented aromatic diffuser refills. Due to the rapid-changing seasonal themes, I’ve stockpiled apple-cinnamon—one of my favorite seasonal scents.
My favorite of the four seasons, I can’t wait for the crisp days of autumn to make inroads to kick out the jams of hurricanes Franklin and Idalia, who’ve made their humidity known.
In the capacity of a writer, I’m blazing subtle inroads along my Contemporary work in progress, drafting chapter 39 (535 words thus far).
*May each of us enjoy the subtle transitions of nature.
My sincere appreciation to you for reading this far.
