Plunge or Plane?

A shout out to all diehard Rhode Islanders who will partake in Rhode Island’s 41st Annual Penguin Plunge on January 1, 2017, 12 noon at Roger Wheeler State Beach in Narragansett for the worthy cause of Special Olympics, RI.

All that thrashing in the brine will create a flash-in-the-pan splash preserved on all the local news channels.

An Indie author, I’ve taken a few too many foolhardy plunges into the brine for the worthy cause of marketing and promoting my recent release in the genre of Contemporary Women’s Fiction: AN ENLIGHTENING QUICHE (Paperback – August 22, 2016; Kindle Edition – September 20, 2016).

Shared in a previous blog—my one-month Book Blast with “Pump Up Your Book” from November 7 – 30 was a bust, my being the only elephant loitering in the blog rooms! I also threw away more money I’ve yet to earn from book sales on paid promotional venues such as eBookSoda, People Reads, and The Fussy Librarian, though I’m inclined to stick with the latter in the upcoming year.

Rather than plunge headfirst into shark-infested waters, I intend to plane in 2017. For starters, I have three upcoming author interviews and three promissory book reviews—Long and Short Reviews; LILbooKlovers; The Empty Pages. I am also waiting in the wings for reviews from those still reading my novel, thus far having accrued two 4-Star and thirteen 5-Star reviews at Amazon.

I’ll be planing and soaring with high hopes at each local library book signing event I’m hosting throughout the months of January and February in the New Year. I’ll be sure to encourage attendees to consider inviting me to any future speaking engagements.

While I still can’t predict the potential for success from any marketing strategy I’m willing to try, nothing beats word of mouth in creating a ripple effect which is longer lasting and more profound than a momentary splash!

Eva’s Byte #296 – Maybe, Maybe Not!

Are you with me for rounding the bend to 2021, leaving miles of bad roads in 2020 behind us?

Typical for rounding the bend to a New Year, the notion of making resolutions for accomplishing a personal goal or dropping a bad habit.

Maybe. Maybe not.

This year, having already spent plenty of time self-isolating, I’ve worked on areas in need of personal improvement:

I’ve exercised more.

I’m super organized.

I’ve saved more money by staying home.

I’ve read more, having surpassed my pledge to read/review 25 books in the Goodreads Challenge. I can kiss this year good-bye with 31 books under my belt.

If I thought I could increase my word output by the end of each daily writing session to further advance my Contemporary WIP, I’d resolve to do it. But, it’s not how I roll as my own harshest critic. So, schlepping to the finish line, I am rounding the bend of Part 3, chapter 62 @ 1392 words thus far.

For now, I’m huddling under the mushroom cloud of this apocalyptic pandemic. When herd immunity from COVID-19 is achieved through widespread vaccination, I resolve to live life to the fullest gallivanting, and spending time with family. No two maybes about it!

May each of us round the bend to the New Year with brighter prospects looming in our horizons along unpaved roads ahead.

My sincere appreciation if you’ve read this far.

Eva’s Byte #348 – Bridges

Whether traversing a bridge over troubled waters, or burning it behind us—we still have to get to the other side of 2021 onto the uncharted territory of 2022, hoping for the best. One of the best who crossed a bridge before Christmas into the parallel realm of Heaven, is my dear friend, Renee.

Renee Gauthier was a mentor to those in the Indie author community on Facebook. One of the co-founders of The Indie Writers’ Cooperative, she and Joanne Van Leerdam spearheaded a group “dedicated to the encouragement and support of our fellow Indie Authors.”

I’d first met Renee and the others who would form the Indie Fabs (Aliya DalRae, Jeannie JB Richards, Aryl Shanti, and Joanne Van Leerdam) in 2016. Newly published after a ten-year hiatus, and out of the social media loop, it was with fear and trepidation that I signed up for a holiday author event held at the Cooperative. I recall Renee privately messaging each author to cue us in and to offer words of encouragement at a time when such events were just coming into their own on social media.

The Indie Writers’ Cooperative was just one venture where Renee excelled for dispensing her vast knowledge of the industry on behalf of Indies.

Due to her creative endeavors and enterprises, she leaves behind an impressive legacy on this side through her amazing cover designs. She designed covers for my Nonfiction Memoir and Novella.

And, her memorable books. I have a special place in my heart for Renee’s Christmas Miracle series which evolved from her love of Christmas. She had so many more projects in the works.

Sebastian Winters: https://www.amazon.com/Sebastian-Wint...?

Most importantly, Renee has made inroads in my heart and has left indelible impressions in my mind for her endearing friendship, encouraging words, sense of humor, and unwavering support.

Crossing the bridge into the New Year, I’m traveling light from my resolve to leave unwanted baggage behind. Coming with me in 2022, are the cherished memories retained of loved ones on earth and in the heavenly realm where Renee’s dreams now have wings to fly.
Best wishes to all for renewing faith and hope along the journey of 2022.

My sincere appreciation if you’ve read this far.

Eva’s Byte #401 – First Order of Biz

The time to hesitate is through
No time to wallow in the mire

“Light My Fire” by the Doors (1967)

The dawn of a brand new year always inspires me to light my fire for undertaking the first order of business on January 1st.

Since I keep four various-sized theme trees up year round, and my snowmen, moose, and reindeer stay put all winter—putting away holiday decorations is a subordinate clause easily done the day after Christmas.

My first order of biz is purging my office.

It entails rifling through all storage units to eliminate passé papers no longer relevant in the New Year. It involves going through desk drawers to ferret out the impertinent. Then, there’s cabinet fever, where I assess what odds and ends are still worth keeping behind its closed doors.

Undergoing my first order of biz declutters my immediate surroundings and removes all unnecessary traces of the previous year. Getting rid of excess baggage, be it stuff or stressors, enables me to put my best foot forward blazing new trails in 2023.

In my capacity as a writer, it’s biz as usual. I’m forging ahead along the journey of drafting my Contemporary work in progress, having just finished Chapter 25 (1481 words).

*Whatever your first order of business in the New Year, may it afford you a clearer vision for blazing new trails.

My sincere appreciation to you for reading this far.

Eva’s Byte #452 – It’s a Wrap

We’re careening around the corner of 2024. The here-and-now of 2023 will soon recede in our rearview mirror.

Not one to make any New Year’s resolutions, nor do I dwell on or in the past, I will give the fleeting year a moment of my time to reflect:

Parodying John Lennon’s “So This Is Christmas” - Another year just about over, and, a new one about to begin. Just what have I done?

Nothing that’d earn me a humanitarian award, or name me Time’s Person of the Year.

But, then again, aren’t most of us unsung heroes/heroines in our own right who make a difference by doing things for others without calling attention to ourselves?

I won’t elaborate with personal details as that would defeat my purpose for flying under the radar.

For blazing new trails in 2024, I did purchase a replacement pair of black Mary Janes with tire-textured soles for navigating slippery ground.

In the capacity of a writer, it’s just about a wrap for drafting chapter 48 (740 words thus far) along my Contemporary work in progress.

*May each of us stay true to ourselves venturing along roads not yet taken in the New Year.

My sincere appreciation to you for reading this far.

Eva’s Byte #505 – Adjustments

Another year over
And a new one just begun (From John Lennon’s “So this is Christmas” – released 1971)

So, what will I do now that the New Year has begun?

As memories and reactions to unforeseen developments in 2024 carry over into 2025, I’ll make the necessary adjustments to carry on with fortitude.

Also carrying over into the New Year, my daily regimen of exercising and walking.

In the capacity of a writer, I’m carrying on with drafting my Contemporary work in progress. I’ve completed chapter 7 (1409 words), and I’ve begun writing chapter 8 (550 words thus far).

*May each of us make the necessary adjustments for forging ahead in the New Year.

My sincere appreciation to you for reading this far.
