Eva’s Byte #359 – Taking a Hike
At the onset of the pandemic in 2019, with sanctions to stay put, I took up virtual travel. Last summer I sojourned on Mackinac Island in Michigan. My short stay at the Grand Hotel didn’t cost me a dime.
And, nowadays, to deflect the horrors of war for an hour, I’ve taken up virtual hiking. My first venture was a trek in the Grand Canyon along its South Rim on the South Kaibab Trail and across the Colorado River (4 kilometers). An undertaking over the course of two sittings, the two-hour experience of “living on the edge” was both breathtaking and thrilling.
As much as I take pride in exercising and walking on a daily basis, I would not have the stamina to endure hiking an arduous trail beset with the pitfalls of elevation changes.
Whereas, a virtual hike does not require hours of training in preparation. Nor does it require fuel consumption to arrive at one’s destination from near or far.

In my capacity of a writer, I’m blazing a trail through Chapter 9 (721 words thus far) of my Contemporary work in progress. Since the onset of this story, a pushy minor character has elbowed her way in, demanding more of a presence than I’d originally intended.
*May each of us safeguard our physical, emotional, and mental well-being by engaging in pleasurable pastimes.
My sincere appreciation if you’ve read this far.
