Marcus Lives!!!

It's great to have Marcus Teaches Us out in the public view. Marcus Garvey is not an easy person to write about for children.

When we did the 1st edition in 2012, the intent was to give children 3-6 yrs old, the chance to say what they knew about him. They used paints and canvas and fabrics and crayons. It was awesome.
That was in Jamaica,

Now so many years later I am accompanied by a 9 year old author who uses the word. It tells me that children and their parents, will always be learning about the famous philosopher because he is "in the wind" in words, music, lyrics, batik, tie & dye. So many forms

Garvey Lives and will continue to excite the reader. His words mean so much more everyday and make us realize as we say in this edition's blurb, "You too can be a part of Black History"

9 year old writers & me

Family Fun Day
I suddenly find myself with two 9 year old writers!! I can't imagine how this happened but it did. The first book was all about Tweet Tweet, a playful joyous pink penguin who broke her wing. The title was "The Adventures of Tweet Tweet". My granddaughter agreed that I could record, yes you heard me, record what she was saying and then put it into a book!!!
She was quite clear that the only way to get over the anxiety she was experiencing at the start of #lockdown, was to find a way to let it all out.

Quite an experience, Now I find myself writing with a 9 year old who is again a co-author. The title "Marcus Teaches Us". A book again for kids 6-9 yrs. It is about the great black philosopher, Marcus Garvey. My co-author is equally clear about what he has to share with the world.

This entire experience is an invaluable one as it has made me much more appreciative of their innovativeness and creativity, as well as learning to be really and truly humble.

Kids have real things that hey want to share. They are not afraid!! And their language is GREAT!!
