Happy 2016 to one and all!
1.1.2016
2015 was one of my best years on earth due to the fact that I rather surprised myself. A year ago today, I could never have guessed that I would have self-published six books in both Kindle and paperback format. I may have mentioned this before about a million times but I am still in shock!
I wrote two of the books from scratch in 2015, but the other four had been written over the past ten years. I decided not to mess around wasting any more time waiting to be discovered by a literary agent but opted instead to become my own publisher through Createspace and Kindle Direct Publishing. It was an uplifting experience and I recommend it to any writer. Before you ask, no, I do not have any shares in Amazon.
It is now a month since all of my books were self-published on Amazon. Although my book sales could have been better, I have received several four and five star reviews for each book from the people who took a leap of faith and bought one or all of my books. I have posted their wonderful reviews onto my website to encourage me further in my endeavours. Living with Postcards, my non-fiction book has sold the best out of the six, with Random Bullets also doing well, followed by Potholes and Magic Carpets, then A Slice of the Seventies. When readers have finished reading my autobiographical A Slice of the Seventies, as it is the first book in The Mug Trilogy they hopefully might consider buying the other two books, The Lying Scotsman and then Straws. I live in hope.
My plan for 2016 is to continue my disciplined but enjoyable regime of writing from 11am to 6pm each day including weekends. In the first half of 2016, I will hopefully finish writing and then publish my contemporary erotic thriller fantasy called Hostile. This will be followed by me publishing my almost completed collection of short stories. I am thinking of calling this short story collection, each written in different genres, Joy’s Shorts, but I might reconsider.
During the past few months, I have been somewhat reluctantly marketing all of my books more than I thought I would. However, I need to try even harder to spread the word about my books because the competition is so great. At least I now have my 500 printed colour postcards advertising all of my books to hand out to anyone that I meet who asks me about my books. I am also going to order new printed postcards solely for my non-fiction Living with Postcards paperback book. As it is a totally different type of book to my five fiction books, it needs different marketing and targeting. I must aim it towards anyone that is interested in looking at or collectiong old postcards, those interested in nostalgia, ephemera, history and beautiful objects in general.
If 2016 is as exciting and emotionally rewarding as 2015 has been then I will feel as happy and enthused as I am feeling today. I must resolve to try to make 2016 just as emotionally rewarding. However, I need to be realistic and also try to make it more financially rewarding by marketing better. That will be easier said than done because the skill in marketing books is very different to the skill in writing them. Having written, designed and produced the interior and covers and published all of the books myself, at least there are no costs for me to recoup.
My motivation to write more books has never been higher, so I am entering 2016 bubbling over with hope and enthusiasm. I even have an interesting idea for another thriller to write after Hostile and Joy’s Shorts are published, but more of that later.

My latest book, The Hostile was published yesterday on Amazon
My eighth book, a contemporary thriller called The Hostile, was published on Amazon yesterday in both paperback and Kindle editions. I am a couple of weeks away from publishing the audiobook edition, narrated by me, on Audible, Amazon and iTunes. It is my second audiobook, Her demonic Angel was my first. I intend turning more of my books into audio versions and will probably make Random Bullets into an audiobook next, as well as writing book nine. I am toying with writing a sequel to The Hostile. The Hostile
The Kindle edition of Random Bullets is FREE on Amazon 4th and 5th May
The Kindle edition of RANDOM BULLETS is FREE on Amazon May 4th and on Thursday May 5th.Random Bullets
After shooting and killing his nephew, a gunman runs wild in a London park. What drives Edward to commit such heinous acts? Who will survive yet another of his moments of madness? Set in 2015, Random Bullets is a thriller with a fantasy twist.
Random Bullets is still my personal favourite out of all of my eight books. If you know my history, you can guess why. For those who do not like e-books, Random Bullets is also available on Amazon to buy as a paperback edition. Once I have finished the audiobook version of The Hostile, I intend to produce an audiobook of Random Bullets, also narrated by me. Her demonic Angel is already available on Audible and Amazon,
I hope that you take advantage of the free kindle edition of Random Bullets. I would really love to know what you think of it.

The Hostile audiobook, ready to go live!
I'm trying to suppress a huge WOOHOOOO! I've just received an email from #ACX telling me that my resubmission of my audiobook of my latest thriller, The Hostile, narrated by me, was successful! There were no problems with it at all.
The Hostile
ACX informed me that The Hostile audiobook is now heading for retail, where it will join my other audiobook of Her demonic Angel, which is already available to buy on Audible, Amazon and iTunes. I'll let everyone know when The Hostile is up on the retail sites. I dare say ACX will give me 25 promo codes again, so 25 people can have a free copy of The Hostile. It is wonderful news to hear just before my daughter's wedding to Chris on Friday

A perfect day
June 10th 2016 was not only the day that my beloved daughter, Zoe Mutter, married Christian Blyth in Ilfracombe, Devon, but it was also the day that the audiobook of The Hostile went live on Audible, Amazon and iTunes. As with my audiobook of Her demonic Angel, an iTunes copy is half the price of the Audible and Amazon copies. To be honest, I was so enchanted and involved with celebrating the spectacular wedding that I hardly noticed that The Hostile audiobook, narrated by me, is now for sale or free download until I returned home on 13th June.
On 8th June, I flew to Exeter from Manchester, stayed a night in Exeter with my 86-year-old mother, who had flown from Jersey for her granddaughter's wedding. We then caught a taxi (£110!) to Ilfracombe. At least we could share the cab fare. The rain luckily held off until after the outdoor ceremony overlooking sea, then it hammered down as we enjoyed a Lionel Richie themed reception. There was even a Lionel Richie cake and a Lionel Richie conga. It has been a magical, perfect six days that I will remember forever.
I am now back in Oldham, slightly shell-shocked and slowly recovering from the meticulously planned festivities, gradually sliding back into my normal life of writing books and trying my best to market them, whilst bracing myself to start writing book nine, a sequel to The Hostile. Oh, did I mention that The Hostile audiobook went live on iTunes, Amazon and Audible last Friday?Joy Mutter

My 'Random Bullets' kindle is free today!
The Kindle edition of my 2015 thriller, Random Bullets, is FREE on Amazon today, 18th June.
After shooting and killing his nephew, a gunman runs wild in a London park. What drives Edward to commit such heinous acts? Who will survive yet another of his moments of madness? The action takes place in Jersey, Cornwall, Manchester, London and other places not of this world. Set in 2015, Random Bullets is a thriller with a fantasy twist.
Random Bullets is still my favourite book out of all eight books that I have published. One of its main themes has impacted hugely on my life and will continue to do so until I am no more, and probably beyond.

It has received several five star reviews from readers and is currently my best-selling fiction book. Thank you to those of you who have left high ratings and very encouraging reviews. Much appreciated. Also available in paperback.
I have almost finished redesigning and republishing all of my eight books in both paperback and Kindle editions on Amazon. I think it has been worth the huge amount of effort. Random Bullets

All of my Kindles now £0.99
The Kindle editions of all of my fiction books are now £0.99 on Amazon until 31st July. My one non-fiction book, Living with Postcards, is £1.54 until then. http://amzn.to/1WuzgXp Don't say I don't give you anything.
If you are clueless which ones to pick, I suggest Random Bullets, The Hostile ... oh, and Potholes and Magic Carpets ... and of course there's Her demonic Angel if you like short stories ... oh, just buy the lot, ha ha! At this price, it won't bankrupt you.

I've just received my updated edition of 'A Slice of the Seventies'
Flicking through my recently redesigned and republished copy of 'A Slice of the Seventies' that the postman delivered this week. The poor man has had a busy time, as I have received newly redesigned paperbacks of all of my books through the post this week. I'm delighted with the results and it was well worth the huge amount of effort to personally redo the eight covers and update the end matter in both paperback and Kindle formats.
There's a small picture of Jimi Hendrix amidst the other cover images on 'A Slice of the Seventies'. Some might say that Hendrix is more 60s than 70s, but I saw him play live at the Isle of Wight Music Festival in the summer of 1970, a few weeks before he died at such a young age. I write about the Festival and many other things in my memoir, 'A Slice of the Seventies'. It is the first book in my loosely autobiographical Mug Trilogy. 'The Lying Scotsman' and 'Straws' are the others in the series.
The Kindle version is £0.99 on Amazon until 31st July along with all my other Kindle editions. I still prefer paperbacks and that's why I made paperback versions as well as Kindles for each of my eight books

My own Olympic medalists
Sticking with the Olympics theme, Random Bullets is my current Gold medal holder in the fiction event. The Silver medal goes to The Hostile, closely followed by Bronze medalist Potholes and Magic Carpets. In the non-fiction event, my Living with Postcards book is undisputed Gold medalist because it is my only non-fiction book.
Find them all here for £0.99 for the Kindle editions and low prices for all of my 8 paperbacks. If you're feeling adventurous, try one of my 2 audiobooks, The Hostile and Her demonic Angel. http://amzn.to/2b96qaj. Happy reading!
