I think I would travel to James Baldwin's Paris in Giovanni's Room. That was one of my favorite books of all times and has inspired some of my writing. I love how vivid the bars and the streets are in Giovanni's Room. It's gritty and romantic and exciting all at the same time.

Jack London's wilderness in Call of the Wild would also be a nice destination. I loved that book as a child and often fell asleep thinking about that book. (less)

Hi Palmer - thanks for the question!

When I turned 30, I promised myself I would accomplish two major goals in my 30s - run another marathon and write a novel. On my 39th birthday I realized I had run that marathon, but I hadn't written much of anything, so I got to work. At first my goal was just to get a manuscript done, but then when I finished it, I wanted to get it published. So, I started pitching publishers and agents - I got a contract the week before my 40th birthday. (less)

The Photographer's Truth by Ralph Josiah Bardsley
"I loved the way the book started. The writing was beautiful and Ian was a character I could sink into and enjoy inhabiting. He’s about my age, and I love nothing more than an awakening. Coming of age 2.0 is my current specific interest; I find myself" Read more of this review »

A Careful Heart by Ralph Josiah Bardsley
"Another powerful but painful read. I liked the journey of friendship we got to experience. Everyone got to find happiness in the end, but Travis’s journey was hard to experience. It’s a good reminder that the loud and charming are sometimes the empti" Read more of this review »

“So, Carter, if you need to talk about anything, you know, about being gay. If there are things that you don't understand or things that confuse you, you can ask me. Anything. You can ask me anything."
Carter studied him for a moment and asked. "Who's your cell provider?”
