There is something there, tenuous and undefined, but I can feel it, and I let it touch something inside of me, and follow where it leads. Sometimes ideas come as I'm drifting off to sleep, or just waking up. Perhaps being in that hazy in-between state allows ideas to emerge from my subconscious. Creativity is an odd and wonderful thing, and I sometimes find myself pleasantly surprised at what I've written, and I wonder "Where did that come from?" Certain instrumental music stirs me emotionally and I like to have it on when I'm writing. Movies that make me feel deeply about the human condition can inspire, and reading well-written books and poetry either inspires me to reach for more in my own writing or makes me feel quitting because I know I'll never reach the level of mastery of what I've just read.(less)

New children's poetry book coming soon!

I'm happy to announce that my second book of poetry for children will be released soon.

A Horse Is in My House Again is filled with whimsical funny poems, and includes artwork by the same cartoonist who illustrated I Met A Woolly Mammoth.

I had a blast writing the poems for this collection and am looking forward to sharing it with young readers.
