NEW NOVEL COMPLETE!
I just typed "The End" in my manuscript of my new novel. Here's the synopsis.
Time Has Come by June Ahern
Sixteen years after the Summer of Love, Liz MacKay appears before a parole board. Do you understand the gravity of your actions? Yes. Are you deeply sorry for the grief they have caused others? Yes. Sorry, but not for killing Ricky Martinez. He hadn’t cared who he hurt. Liz, too, had once been arrogant and self-centered. It toppled her from a good life into a dark hole. Now she does penance for the great misery she caused. Her attorney and friend, Toni, disagrees: When did penance become self-punishment?
A self-professed bad girl Liz marries her Highlander sweetheart at sixteen. They live happily in Scotland until their young son is kidnapped. The boy dies as a result of her lies. Newspaper headlines scream Mom Guilty As Sin! Liz’s husband abandons her and she is a pariah in her hometown. Lonely and grief stricken, she heeds an Irish soothsayer’s prophesy and moves to San Francisco to redeem herself.
Life in San Francisco in 1967 is beyond all of Liz’s experience. She moves into a Castro Street commune, joining Black Panthers Toni and Bobby, the homosexual Mason, Sam, who keeps a watchful eye on the family, and Ricky the drug dealer who has one girlfriend after another. His current girlfriend, Cat, reveals too much about his dealings. And Toni, suspicious of Liz’s insistence that she’s only there to have a jolly good time, seeks the truth.
As the commune unravels and her own drug use escalates, Liz’s guilt about her son worsens. Embroiled in a plot against Toni and Bobby and desperate for redemption and desperate for redemption, she wants to save everyone. Liz must decide. Warn Toni or heed Sam’s threats. Keep quiet. Let what is going happen, happen.

Synopsis
It is 1983 and Liz MacKay waits for parole for the murder of former roommate, Ricky Martinez. Is she guilty? Or is she serving time for another’s crime?
In 1967, partly to blame for her young son's death and abandoned by her husband, Liz Mackay flees Scotland in disgrace, hoping for a second chance at love and life. She arrives in San Francisco during the Summer of Love to lose herself among the groovy people. She joins a commune; a curious mix of Black Panthers trying to change the world, a Vietnam vet seeking inner peace, a flamboyant hairdresser ready for fame and love, a flower child and her drug dealer boyfriend who changes girlfriends often. At first, Liz is happy to have found a welcoming home, but as her new roommates pry into her mysterious past Liz's search for a "jolly good time" brings more grief and a worsening drug addiction. Liz is unwittingly drawn into the dark underbelly of violence and addiction with a callous drug-dealer and a treacherous plot to bring down the Black Panthers. Her unlikely friendship with Black Panther Toni Bordeaux, leads Liz to redemption for her shameful past.
The strong plot and dialogue of "City of Redemption" exposes the seldom seen seedy side of the Summer of Love. It is a vividly recounted story of lies, betrayal, sex, drugs and murder takes place during an unforgettable time and place in history.

WITNESSING MURDER: PSYCHIC RECOUNT
In my book How to Talk With Spirits: Seances, Mediums, Ghost Hunts
I share many personal spirit and ghost encounters,
most of which are pleasant and healing,
but some, like my murder cases are not at all pleasant to experience.
People are often curious about how a psychic/medium, like myself, get insights to murders and what it's like for them experiencing it.
It's not easy to talk about. It terrifying. Sad. And ugly to witness.
I know because I've been psychically murdered as well as witnessed murders.
I've worked with family and police with my psychic impressions of murder victims. In respect of the family I won't give the name of the victims or information leading to discovery.
Unfortunately, I learned, the experience of being a part of a murder investigation doesn't always leave your psyche or life easily.
Two cases I experienced continue pop up throughout years for some reason or the other.
Like a chance meeting of the child of one victim and an interest of a documentary producer.
Working on murder investigations is incredibly sad. You see a tragic end of someone's life. A person hurt beyond what you'd ever want to imagine. It will often continue to be a mental, emotional, physical and psychic disturbance for many years.
My first witness to a murder took years to solve and finally communicating with the victim to envision her having some peace and healing of spirit.
My first murder case: How I became involved: I didn’t know the victim nor her family but a friend's friend knowing I was a psychic medium asked her if I had any insights.
With that question I received psychic information. It came through a most terrifying dreams – actually more of a nightmare.
This case was about a horrendous murder that include rape of a mother whose child was in the home at the time.
During the dream I was the victim. Now, if you think that’s most interesting, don’t. It's not interesting. It's horrible.
It was terrorizing! Fighting for your life, stumbling over furniture in terror - hoping to escape being killed. The smell of the killer, the touch, the fighting back - for your life!
The pounding of my heart so loud it drove out the screams.
Only upon waking did I slowly become aware I was not the victim. I wasn't dead. Shaken and trembling I felt physically ill - drained.
I regrouped and was able to remove my physical reaction from the victim although couldn’t shake the emotional fear nor the mental images. I related all to the victim's family, the house, furniture, what happened, how it happened They confirmed all my details were correct. I drew a picture of the killer. It was as they and the police suspected.
In subsequent dreams I could “see” the scene from a distance, as though viewing but not being. The victim told me more about her situation, her life - what was going on - she shared her great sadness over being separated from her daughter. She still pointed to the suspect.
It was not as she or the family or the police thought but could never prove. Twenty years later and with DNA proof the murderer was a serial killer of several people, mostly women. An evil man who died in prison but was never charged of these murders rather was in prison for burglary.
These dark visions and spirit interactions can lead to attachments. When you interact with low life vampire entities and evil humans if you're not careful they can attach their energy to you.
When a murder is experienced by psychics mediums they also deal with the darkness of the killer and that fear and ugliness can create a sense of paranoia. Worrying, will I be next? Was it a prophecy? I sought a couple of psychics to help me resolve my anxieties. I asked them why had the spirit pointed to the wrong suspect and both had their own theories: she somehow blamed the person said one. The other said, she was showing you a person she needed to be there to save her.
I've never fully recovered from, in any way, adding to the misery of the family from sharing information that was accurate. My next case would be much more helpful with the conviction of the murderer who is still in prison.
I worked on a few more murder and missing persons cases with police involvement but no longer wanting that dark energy, retired from doing cases.

SPIRIT'S SUDDEN DEATH

I've mediated between the living and the dead quite a few people after the sudden and unexpected death of a beloved one.
Sometimes the death was an accident or an undetected illness like a heart attack and at times, a murder.
Very soon after the death the living person will want me to contact the spirit of the person.
A sudden death of a loved one is devastating in ways only those who've suffered from it grasp.
The shock and pain lasts for years, sometimes until the living also become spirits. A part of the living, especially with murder victims, dies also.
The ones left behind, the living that is, are in a tremendous shock; unable at times to even talk coherently and often physically effected with uncontrollable tremors.
In shock and disbelief both the living and the spirits ask how can this be? Why did it (the death) happen? Repeating it over and over.
That shocked spirit in - disbelief says; where am I? Why can't she or he (the living) hear me? See me? Please, help me. I need to be with (a loved one.) I'm afraid.
Often in an accident the body was damaged, mangled, deeply hurt - perhaps their body was crushed in an accident, or died by fire or in some case the person had been shot or stabbed to death and the spirit looks at their bodies shocked at what they see: Why does my body hurt so bad? Why can't I move my arms or legs. Why am I bleeding so much?
The spirit wants to understand how they "flew" out of their body - still feeling attached to the physical body with no time to adjust to being near death like with a lingering illness or age related.
Chaos.Confusion. Fear. Disbelief. On both sides: the living and the dead.
And, how can I be of help - how do I interact in a calm and healing way for both sides?
It's sad and difficult to tell the living, please give him or her time to adjust being gone from their physical body.
To the spirit I say, you no longer exist as a physical being. You had an accident, a heart attack, or were killed.
Anger on both sides. Stay calm, I tell myself listening to the wails and rants of injustice, the blaming.
My advice isn't readily accepted nor is it appreciated, at least for a while.
Gently I say, please give him or her (the spirit) time to accept the death, the transition.
I mediate between them - carrying messages back and forth in some reasonable way to sort through muddled words, sobs - to listen to both sides and make sense of it:
The living -who murdered you? The spirit: Why was I murdered?
The living - did you feel a lot of pain?
The spirit: It was a terrible pain and then I woke up in a different place.
In time, some of the high anxiety settles. Shock shifts to grief, grief shifts to acceptance for most on both sides and then the yearning to stay connected leads to a more peaceful communication.
