all i ever wanted was the world
To the person who wanted me to try to upload Ideas of Sin to All Romance Ebooks... yeah, I tried. But no matter what I do to the cover image, how many times I get the pixels perfectly measured up, ARE keeps telling me that the dimensions are off from what my graphics program says they are, and frankly I want to punch that website in the face right now, so that isn't happening. Sorry. Maybe someday. (Seriously though I could scream right now I have tried it so much. It was just not meant to be, cherie.)
Meanwhile, you know when you are working on a project and it's not there yet, but you can kind of see what it's turning into and it's awesome, but you still know it's going to be a while? Yeah that is where I am.
But my nerds in a coffee shop short story should be coming out soon. I did my cover sheet today, which means describing them and trying to think like an artist today (which yeah I can't. Art is hard work, y'all. Recognize.)
You know what I miss though? Fairies so in love that they have heart eyes. I need to write more of that. Maybe try to fit another fairy story into the weird short story collection I am trying to do here. I love twinky fairies especially, though I was considering doing a Love Talker (gancanagh). Then again, there are so many other things to do and I want some fun to balance out all the drama. There is some serious drama. I blame Kazimir, operatic courtesan and consummate drama queen.
"I know I haven't eaten or slept in far too long, but I must confess to some confusion." Jacob did not seem to notice Kazimir was trembling against him. A kiss might have made him stop talking, but Kazimir could not lift his head for one.
"It is very hard to hold onto a firebird," Kazimir told him despite never having met another of his kind. He had heard once that the czars had kept them, to their peril. Persian kings had taken them and worn their feathers, courting disaster in their pride. Only Egypt was said to have honored them, but the pharaohs were still gone. "Those who try often live to regret it."
Kazimir was so close to him that he could hear Jacob swallow. "Do you warn all men this way?"
"I could demand the impossible from you," Kazimir continued, feeling Jacob's hand tighten on him and smiling for it, "watch you throw yourself after what cannot be caught."
"Yesterday I would have said this was impossible," Jacob mused, "try again, golden bird."
Kazimir, on the verge of asking for the moon, closed his mouth. There was little use in warning a drunkard from drink, or a man in lust from the object of his passion. He pressed his palm to Jacob's chest, surprised at the insistent thrum of his heart, the strength of the breath Jacob drew in. He smoothed out the wrinkles in the old shirt, taking his time and wondering when Jacob would speak again.

you don't need to call in to work cuz you're the boss
(My blog posts on LJ usually also post over here, but this one didn't. Weird. I feel like a double post is going to show up at some point.)
Hello, hello!
I've been frantically working on finishing up the collection of short stories I wrote in the Being(s) In Love universe, and I submitted them today. It's not the usual thing Dreamspinner publishes, so we'll see if they want it. I hope so, if only because I'm kind of in love with some of those characters. (As I generally am when done writing. Sometimes it never goes away either. Chaaaaaaarlie.) It's basically glimpses of different beings (and some humans) during the hundred years since the beings emerged from hiding. Every story is linked and there are all sorts of cameos and references to the books. Like I said, kind of not what DS usually does. But I was compelled, I tell ya!
I have also, in this frenzied rush before I have deal with a bunch of personal stuff in the coming months, been doing that thing where my brain goes all over the place. So if you follow me on Tumblr, by now you have seen trying to match Beyonce songs to all my characters. Just ignore me when I do that. ...although I will now and forever think of Tim singing "Ego" about Nathaniel, and "Green Light" has always been Cal's song to Ray.
Anyway. It's official, A Beginner's Guide to Wooing Your Mate is due out in March, although I don't know the exact date yet. It will be Being(s) In Love #3. Here is the blurb:
Zeki Janowitz has returned to his hometown of Wolf’s Paw to start his wizarding career. Unfortunately, Wolf’s Paw, a werewolf refuge, follows centuries of tradition and shuns human magic and a very human Zeki. He knows he’s in for a struggle, but a part of him has always belonged in the mountain town, or rather belonged to Theo Greenleaf. Years away at school haven’t lessened Zeki’s crush on the quiet werewolf. When town gossip informs him Theo still suffers from his mate’s rejection and does not date, it does little to ease Zeki’s embarrassing feelings. He decides now’s the time to get the man he’s always wanted.
Werewolves usually don’t recover from losing their mates, and Theo barely pulled through by focusing on his love of baking. It’s a daily struggle, and Zeki’s return to Wolf’s Paw shatters his peace. Theo doesn’t know what to think when Zeki attempts to woo him, talking about his wizarding business and settling in town for good. It’s like Zeki doesn’t have a clue how his words years before left Theo a shell of a werewolf.
Beginners in love, Theo and Zeki must seduce each other with a bit of heavenly baking and magic.
...so a werewolf baker. Oh yeah. I'm bringing it. I am definitely bringing... something... to the table.
And then a few months after that, Being(s) in Love #4 should come out. Little Wolf. Prepare yourselves. He is... um. He is.. spiky? Difficult? Scared and so in love he can't see straight but no one ever told him what love felt like? Aw.
That's all I have for updates for the moment, although I might try to do another interview or chat or something in March, or maybe later when Little Wolf comes out. (Yes, I have Tulip in mind still. And also a few other, non-being things if life gives me the time.)

what I've been up to
Where have I been? Well... after His Mossy Boy came out, I settled in to finish a project I've been working on (gays in space) and then move on quickly to a new Beings story (Clematis, you naughty fairy!). That was the plan, anyway.
But then some things got in the way, as things do. Uh, the area where I work and live was on fire for about two weeks, among other things. SIGH. But I did not have the mental space to work on something long after that. So I moved on to shorter projects.
All the shorts that were up on Amazon are now also up on Smashwords, for anyone who does not like to deal with Amazon. :) Vincent's Thanksgiving Date has a new cover (yay!) and My Man Godric will have a new cover soon.
I also did a little fundraiser for fire relief. Thank you so much to everyone who participated!!! <3
I wrote a tiny ficlet of a story set in the Beings 'Verse (for Piper Vaughn, who wondered about the fairy on the soap opera that Zarrin and Tim watch) called Spring's Not So Secret Secret, and then, since the mood struck me, I wrote a short story (short novella??) set in the same world as A Little Familiar, but with new characters.
Holly and Oak is not a Halloween story. It's not even a Christmas story, although it takes place around Yule/The Winter Solstice. Two witches taking part in a very ancient ritual, with a lot of history between them. And there's ice cream!
(A small town run by its very traditional and conservative coven. A rebellious scion of an old house. The beloved son of another. A ritual that pits them against each other, year after year. And a longing that is getting harder and harder to deny. Plus ice cream. And mistletoe!)
It should be out at the end of this month/start of December. !!!
Now I am back to work on Clematis, as much as I can with the holidays here. Oh, that pretty boy. So much to learn. I am already crying about his broken heart.
Happy Holidays!
(P.S. I don't know about you, but I had to have ice cream handy when writing Holly and Oak so you might want some around when you read it. :) )

New free short!
Hey, everyone!
It's a long time until Sweet Clematis is released but people have been asking for some more beings. (And also I needed something fun and short to write, sooo.)
So please enjoy this tiny future glimpse of a character from Clematis's book.

Updates, and a gift
Just a reminder--Sweet Clematis, Book Nine of the Being(s) in Love series will be out on November 27. FINALLY!
The day after that, I believe, I will have a short interview in the HEA section of USA Today, where I will answer all sorts of geeky writer questions you may or may not care about. :)
This December, probably shortly after the 25th, I will be releasing a smol, fluffy little fantasy short. Something not at all in the holiday spirit, for people who just want a break from it all. It's called How to (Not) Train a Firecat and I will have more details soon.
And in a last bit of news, every year around my birthday, I try to write a fun, easy, short story or snippet for people. This year it got a little out of hand. But I posted it anyway. It's been a stressful year. People should have a nice thing. It's free (or reader sets the price) at Smashwords.
Green Tea and Pink Apples
Hope you all enjoy it! I'll post again in a few weeks to scream about Clematis and other fun stuff!
